Great place to stay, wonderful colors, and a rooftop patio
Villa Santa is a great place to stay -- they have a wonderful kitchen and great staff. I have stayed here every year since 2002 while vacationing in Guadalajara. The only recent down turn is it used to be considered a hostel, containing mostly international travelers, but now in my opinion the feeling is of a live in boarding house for students of Mexico. no problem with this fact, except the atmosphere in my opinion was cliqueish and self absorbed. Ive met a lot of great people while visiting here, so if planning to stay a couple days I recommend the place. staying extended days it may wear on you in that you may feel the segregation influences or you may feel at Home.
Vilasanta is an extremely nice place, especially when compared with the other posadas in Guadalajara. They give you your own key to the front door so that there is no curfew. The staff are friendly and the rooms are cleaned daily. Many of the people staying here are students learning Spanish at the IMAC School or people studying to be TEFL teachers. The constant influx of students makes for a fun and interesting environment.
The building is ideal for a hostel,
The rooftop garden area is so peaceful and inviting. The staff was helpful, especially mentioning the hot water takes a LONG time to arrive at the shower. My room was not noisy and I didn't need the AC.
SUNDAY? During the day there is a recreation day. The city closes a few streets for bikes and bands. Then as it cools down the square by the church becomes a food and crafts fair. Don't miss it!
It is within walking distance of the Chapala bus.
I've stayed in many hostels, and this one has so much potential, but does not live up to its high rating. There is zero atmosphere. Many locals living there..they take up most of the food storage space, and they act like it's their home and we are outsiders invading their privacy. I booked an all male room.. Yet there was a very old woman in my dormitory room. If I wanted mixed, I would chose mixed. Room 10...bathroom..shower..disgusting. Changed trash 2x in one week.
Great rooms and location.
One of the nicest and most comfortable hostels I have stayed in. Very peaceful with excellent amenities.
Liked: Wonderfully relaxed hostel with large airy courtyard and friendly staff. Fairly quiet and peaceful, but still near city centre. Well kittted out kitchen Didn't like: Nothing
Liked: Excellent room size with spacious bathroom and nice common areas. There was a misunderstanding about the price and this was sorted out straight away. Good location, friendly staff. It says on hostel bookers that breakfast is not included yet it was.Excellent value for money- would recommend to anyone. Didn't like: Really small things:-They couldn't find our reservation when we arrived (perhaps hostel bookers had failed to communicate it?) but this was sorted out quickly and efficiently. No milk out for breakfast (considering cereal and coffee are part of the breakfast, milk is kind of essential but as we weren't even expecting to get breakfast anyway, I can't complain too much!).
Liked: great location, friendly staff, excellent kitchen, refrigeration, and cooking facilities, spacious dorm rooms and lots of communal space including a rooftop deck with lots of plants....and near some good nightlife and Centro Historico Didn't like: Nothing
Liked: HOT water, always. Large(double private) room. Colorful, clean, comfortable, poinsettia-filled common area. Large amount of refrigeration space; none of the one-refirgertor-for-20-people crowding . *1.5 blocks from subway.* (Learn the subway & buses, and GO TO THE ZOO.) 4 blocks from supermarket. 12 minute walk from center city cathedral, etc. Helpful staff - no problem in getting us a taxi @ 0400 or changing dates when flight changed. Staff kept kitchen clean. Staff speaks Enlish. Nice mixture of visitors - young & old. Relatively quiet, on a side street; not much noise even for a 1st floor, street room. Didn't like: Tight knee room while sitting on bathroom commode.
Great building-very spacious bright and clean. Social areas very good too. More like being in someone's home than a hostel. Highly recommended.
Liked: Great location and friendly staff. Didn't like: No remote to operate air conditioning. The staff had told us there was only one remote to control all of the machines on the property, and that we had to go to the reception any time we wanted an adjustment.
Liked: very helpful staff. and very lovely house !! Didn't like: NONE
Liked: The place is really cozy Didn't like: It would be better if they offer breakfast
Liked: Beautiful property with lovely furnishings and art reflecting the local cultures. Fantastic common areas with plenty of room to relax including a wonderful roof terrace. Our room was huge and very comfortable and cleaned daily. Huge, amazing kitchen. Didn't like: It's a little walk (10 mins?) from the very center of town, although to be honest I preferred this area as it's a little quieter but still around the university and close to bars & nightlife.
Great place, but the rooms are more shared than private. I wanted shared bath, but didn't expect the room to also be shared. I was shown two rooms one had an open loft overhead with a bed. The other had an open loft and another bedroom seperated by a curtain with the shared bath beside my bed.
