Mad Monkey Koh Rong Samloem, Koh Rong Sanloem

Mad Monkey Backpackers Resort -- the Koh Rong Samloem edition of the famous Mad Monkey chain -- is located in paradise! Having said that, the semi-open dorms are definitely of a lower standard than what you might expect from the brand.

The Location

When trying to reach this place from the mainland, don’t be surprised to find that there are no companies delivering you straight here -- the hostel is located in an extremely secluded place on the island. Therefore, your best bet is to sail to Saracen Bay and get a water taxi or the complimentary boat of the hostel from there. You might want to take into consideration that if you stay here, you are pretty much stuck here, as it is really hard to get out without a water vehicle. There is also no Wi-Fi at all. However, it is all worth it! You will be on an amazing private beach with nothing but pristine nature around and there is plenty to do at the hostel to keep you entertained! Amazing parties at night are guaranteed with more than a hundred people from all over the world.

Rooms and Bathrooms

When you are used to the Mad Monkey standard, you might be a bit surprised when you are showed to your room -- it is a hut with only three walls and lots of bunks crammed inside. You do get mosquito nets, but it is somehow still too basic. There is also no key for your room. The bathrooms are quite nice though, and there is plenty of hot water. It is also remarkable that despite the fact that everybody is on the beach the whole day, you do not get sand all over the premises!

Common Spaces

The whole hostel is really spread out and consists of probably thirty or more bungalows but in the centre of it all, there is a bigger building with the reception, bar, and main socialisation space. Darts and a pool table are here, as well as a sunbathing deck that offers some absolutely amazing views over the coast. There is also a private beach belonging to the hostel as well as an open-air gym and BBQ area. You can get some great food that comes in huge portions (even if they are quite overpriced, but you would kind of expect that on a tiny island like this).

Summary

Choose this place if you have in mind a few days of relaxing beach and party time in the same place. However, do not choose it if you would like to move around and explore and would like to have any other amenities like shops or restaurants around.
