Prague Hostel Na Smetance is housed in a charming flat across the street from a beautiful park.
The Location
This hostel is located in gorgeous Vinohrady. The neighborhood is truly lovely, and a joy to walk around in -- it's charming with beautiful architecture throughout and tree-lined streets. It's very quiet, and probably the most beautiful neighborhood in Prague.
There are two dorm rooms and a small living room; two toilets, one with a full bathtub, make up the bathroom facilities available. This hostel is more like a an apartment with several bunkbeds in it.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The larger dorm room is absolutely gorgeous. Even with more beds than the other dorm, the room is spacious, beautifully lit, and never feels too crowded. The bathrooms are kept clean and there is hot water in the shower. Lockers are provided and are all placed in the common area. Lockers are big enough for valuables; large camera, laptop, that sort of thing. As is the case with most hostels in Europe, lockers already have locks on them. A deposit is required for keys to the flat and the locker.
Common Spaces
There is a small living room, but it's just outside of the toilets, so it's not ideally situated. It is small enough to sit and wait with your luggage, but not really so comfortable.
The kitchen, however is very large and comfortable for a few people -- it's a really wonderful, full kitchen. There is a computer there as well, plus a large table for doing work or eating. The Wi-Fi is excellent in the kitchen, as this is where they keep the router. The kitchen is a highlight in this hostel.
There is a washing machine (you can pay to use) but no dryer.
Summary
It's essentially a very beautiful, comfortable flat. It's a very affordable hostel in a beautiful neighborhood in Prague. The hostel itself is in a well-maintained building that's more on the luxury side. Views from both dorms lead to the park. It's on a lower floor, so you often hear people walking by. For us, this is fine, except that sometimes people smoke as they walk by, which can get annoying.
The low cost can attract some strange people. We would advise them to lower the number of beds in the second dorm and raise the prices. The check-in process is a bit inconvenient, but we found this to be the case with most of the smaller hostels in Prague.
We initially booked for one night then extended for about three more.
