Dalat Note Hostel is excellent value for the money you are paying -- it is almost incredible that they are able to treat you to such a good standard for so little! While the dorms are quite crammed, the place itself has an amazing design and a really cosy feel to it. However, the biggest downside is that they take your passport upon check in, but there is normally nobody around at reception in the mornings. Therefore, if you are catching a bus, make sure to pick it up well in advance otherwise you might risk missing the bus running around trying to track down the receptionist.
The Location
The hostel is located on Thong Thien Hoc, which is known amongst local people as the backpacker street as every second house is a hostel. However, the hostel occupies quite a strategic position amongst them, as it is right at the end of the dead end street with an amazing panorama over the nearby hills from every floor. The location is excellent if you prefer to explore the city center of Da Lat -- walk around the lake, see the Crazy House, or go to the night market. However, the natural wonders of Da Lat are quite far away from here.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The hostel only has a few rooms, but they are bursting to the seams with beds. There are dorms with bunks and with single beds alike, but what they have in common is that the beds are pushed against each other so the next person is going to be sleeping right next to you. In the bunk dorm, the beds are at least separated by a thin see-through curtain. However, the mattresses are huge and comfy and you can get a locker outside the room. There are two bathrooms in the property and they are great; they are spacious and you have a choice amongst a variety of shower gels and shampoos to use.
Common Spaces
Despite the fact that the hostel is quite small, there are plenty of common areas. The whole bottom floor is an eating and play area with comfy seats, darts, and other games. On the second floor, there is another, slightly more private common area which also has games like jenga and cards. The view from here is excellent over the city. On certain nights, the hostel offers so-called "family dinners" when all the guests can eat dinner together at a common table and breakfast can also be ordered in the mornings.
Summary
Dalat Note Hostel is a great choice is you are on a tight budget but still want to treat yourself to sonething nice. It is a clean, upbeat, and friendly place; just make sure you are ok sleeping right next to strangers as the dorm beds are right next to each other.
