The Hostelz.com Review

Dutch Guest House is a very basic hostel with little charm; it's quite old fashioned too. Despite this, there will be a lot of people staying due to its low price. There's also a bar/restaurant with a full-sized pool table that's free to play. As a result, meeting people won't be an issue and you can expect this place to appeal to young travelers, although this isn't a party hostel.

The Location

This is one of the closest hostels to the train station, but it's still a thirty-minute walk. As you leave the train station, turn right and walk to the junction ahead. Turn left and carry on for approximately a kilometer. After you cross the river, turn left and walk for two hundred meters. Just after the pedestrian bridge that crosses the river, there is a right turn. Turn right here, then take the first left. Follow the road as it bends left and right around the buildings and you will be see the hostel on your right.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Rooms are extremely simple, but the price of staying here reflects this. They are, however, very clean and spacious. The beds are quite hard but the main issue is the heat -- the air conditioning won't be put on unless there are at least four guests in the dorm and there are only two fans to compensate for this. This also means mosquitos are an issue. Toilet and showers are located throughout the building, although be aware that the water sometimes runs out due to supply issues.

Common Spaces

The pool table and bar is the defining feature of the hostel and makes meeting people much easier. However, be aware that this is a very small bar, so don't expect a party. It's more of a place to chill with a few beers. There are a few other seating areas scattered around the ground floor, and here you'll probably meet the Dutch owner, who seems very happy to help with traveling plans.

Summary

This is a very basic budget hostel with a chilled-out vibe. Meeting people here will be easy due to its low price, so grouping up for elephant and hiking tours will also be easy. Don't expect a very comfortable sleep and remember to bring mosquito spray. Also, grab a shower when you can, in case the water goes off.
