There is a real cozy homelike feel to The Wanderers Hostel in Shkodër. Tucked comfortably behind its rather high garden walls, and based in an authentic old house, this hostel definitely has character in abundance.
The Location
The Wanderers Hostel is located in the newly renovated, up-and-coming Old Town area of the city of Shkodër in Albania. It is a city very close the border with Montenegro, hence many travelers use it as a stopping point when they cross the border in one direction or the other. But the city deserves to be a destination in its own right. The Old Town is quite pleasant and there is a beautiful lake nearby to explore. Renting a bike for a day is a great idea to go cycling by the lake. Another plus for the city is the nearby Accursed Mountains; this is a convenient base for travelers who want to go on a multi-day hike in the mountains, some of the most beautiful parts of Albania.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms of The Wanderers Hostel are not spectacular, but rather quirky, full of the old world charm that comes with being in a building that has seen more than a century in one shape or other. We say in one shape or other, because until the owner decided to renovate this family property, it was in very much a dilapidated state. The guests can find the old photos of the place, before renovation, adorning the walls in the kitchen area. The bathrooms are located in the same floor as the dorms and are quite enough for the size of the hostel, which all in all, does not host many guests.
Common Spaces
There is a bar and lounge area where the reception is, which would be a good hangout spot in the colder months. And behind that there is a sizable, well-equipped kitchen. But the biggest attraction of the hostel is the wonderful and calm-inducing garden full of chairs, couches, hammocks to chill in, a persimmon tree, and grape wines. There is another tiny bar area in the garden where you can buy quite reasonably priced beers.
Summary
Our impression of the aptly named The Wanderers Hostel has been mostly of love. The dorms might not be the most modern you will find, but the beds do the job, and the privacy curtains are a thoughtful addition. When you add all the charm that comes with the extensive common areas, this hostel quite easily leaps up to the top of the places to stay in this area.

• The Wanderers Hostel is located on the pedestrian road and can be reached walking but also by car from the other side of the road. Located 5.1km far from Shkodra's Castle, 8.1km from lake of Shkodra, 74.5km from the Tirana airport, 65.5km from Podgorica airport.
• Find Hotel Colosseo in the city center (you can't miss it). Stand with it on your right and the big white mosque on your left. This street is the Pedonale. Walk to the end of this street and turn right to follow the paving stones onto Gjuhadol. Turn right again at the hanging sign (above eye level) that says 'Agjensia e Sherbimeve Extra.
