The Hostel - Jackson Hole is located in central Teton Village, perfect for those looking for a winter ski getaway or summer hiking adventure. It is a large, wooden building offering a variety of rooms from dorms to private beds, set against a backdrop of mountains as a base to explore Jackson Hole, Yellowstone, or Teton Village itself.
The Location
The hostel is located right in the center of Teton Village, within walking distance of restaurants, bars, grocery stores, shopping, spas, and activities (horse-riding, skiing). It is a short, thirty-minute drive from Jackson Hole Airport, with plenty of availability for free parking. As it is directly in the center of Teton Village, it is extremely easy to find and it boasts a safe and relaxed environment. For those going in the winter specifically to ski, you couldn't be closer to the ski lifts. For those going in the summer for outdoor activities, you couldn't be closer to the Teton Mountain range for exploration and adventure.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The dorm room has a single bunk bed and two adjacent single beds and is accessed via an electronic-key system. Each guest has a shelf for storage. There is a toilet and shower in a separate connecting room, however the sink is in the main sleeping area. This isn't ideal when trying to brush teeth/wash without disturbing those trying to sleep. There is also limited space for changing between the beds/shelving. The rooms are clean; body and face towels as well as soap are provided. Wi-Fi is available within rooms, however plug sockets to charge electronics are limited. There are no lockers to store valuables.
Common Spaces
The hostel has a cooking area, laundry area, and common room for guests. The cooking area is limited, but does have your basics, including a microwave. The common area is very large and spacious, with a variety of comfy seats, board games, and a pool table to keep yourself entertained. The reception area also offers free hot tea and coffee, and complementary, delicious cereal bars. The outdoor seating also offers a great place to relax in the evenings. The common areas had a more chilled/relaxed vibe, rather than a party atmosphere, creating a casual social environment for both those hoping to meet like-minded travelers and those wanting to keep to themselves.
Summary
This is a great, well-located hostel with welcoming staff, comforting complementary tea/coffee, and all the facilities a traveler could need. Dorm rooms are on the smaller side, but clean and sufficient. Based on the central location and price per night, the hostel offers great value for money for the budget traveler.
Great choice
Nice and rustic, keeping with the theme of the area. Huge rec area with tv theater area, large kitchen, pool table, ping pong. Friendly staff. Super location. Only drawback is no breakfast, but food can be had a few buildings away. When I come back to Jackson Hole, I'll be booking here again.
Ski-in, ski-out! I was surprised that the price was not more for the accommodations that you receive. Nice, cozy rooms and a great lounge area with TV and an entertainment area. I have made the trip to the Hostel X a yearly event.
The atmosphere is more than you could ever want, and the people are great. The rooms are nice and for the price cannot be beat. It's as close to the skiing areas as all the other hotels and it's true many of the best skiers in Jackson are right there. Two words: stay there!
There are few places that can compare with the ambiance of Hostel X. There is so much skiing history here, and some of the best skiers on the mountain are here. The Wilsons are great hosts, and the resident dogs are part of the charm of the place. The rooms are Spartan, but as mentioned before, who spends time in their room in a resort like Jackson? This hostel is very clean, friendly and is maybe the best ski bargain in North America. You can ski in and ski out without spending a fortune. As you can guess, I love this place and keep coming back.
Ps. I have skied at most of the resorts in the Rockies.
This place is a little expensive for the single traveler; otherwise it's a nice place to stay. There is lots of entertainment in the common room in the basement, which keeps you busy. It's also close to the Tetons, so that's a plus.
Think "rustic" (ugly and meek), yet clean. If you don't mind the lack of aesthetic, this is a fantastic bargain, compared to the outrageous prices elsewhere. Plus, if you are here to ski, you're actually at the resort, not eleven miles away (in the city of Jackson). Like dorm hostels, it has community areas, which are better than most. If you're coming to Jackson Hole on the cheap, this is the ONLY option!
Our family of four has stayed at The Hostel X for the last two summers in between backpacking trips into the Tetons. It is a great, fun place to stay. The rooms are just basic bunk rooms, but who wants to hang out in your room when you've got all those beautiful mountains to gaze at. The kids love it because there is foozball, pool, basketball, a huge game room, big tv room, big fireplace - and a house doggie to play with. It's just a blast of a place to stay, and located right near the tram that takes you into the Teton range. We'd go back every year if we could.
