Perfect Hostel in Berlin
I absolutely love this place! It has a bar and big lounge to mingle. I really enjoyed the music and the fact that the rooms are completely separated from the rooms. Finally a good night sleep. Stayed here 3 nights, will come back for sure!
Decent location but far too skimpy on amenities
The location was pretty nice in relation to public transportation and attractions and the rooms were decently nice but I was bothered by how barebones the accommodations were. The negatives -- first, you get charged extra for linens (as if anybody brings their own linens and can avoid this "optional" fee). Second, they don't even dress your bed. A minor irritation, but an irritation nonetheless, especially considering I paid extra for linens. There's also no hand soap provided in the bathrooms. I mean, come on, that's just lazy - people don't travel with their own hand soap and now you're creating a pretty gross hygienic environment. Beyond that, not only was the breakfast not free, it was 5 euro and pretty damn terrible at that. Just go to a local cafe and get yourself some fruit and yogurt. The positives -- great staff, clean bathroom, clean facilities, rad common area, good location, and strong wifi in the common areas.
The Location
The Wallyard Consept Hostel is easy to find as it is located only 500m from Subway station U Turmstrasse in central Berlin. Just 2 stations away from Zoologische Garten (Berlin Zoo) and all major sites such as Brandenburg Tor, Checkpoint Charlie and Kurfrstendamm are reachable by subway or very frequent buses. The airports and the main Trainstation (Hauptbahnhof) can be reached within the hour from this hostel. Situated on a sidestreet away from the mainstreet also means away from traffic and noise makes the stay quite and pleasant. On the mainstreets nearby, Stromstrasse and Turmstrasse, there are many shops, cafes and restaurants catering for every need.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The dorms are located on 3 different floors ontop of the reception and have 3- or 4-beds (singles and bunkbeds) in each room. The rooms are not big but can handle guests and baggage for all who stay. Secure access with door-code and keys (there is a security deposit of 5 for the key that is returned on check-out). There are common bathrooms on each floor with showers and toilets. Restrooms are facing the backyard for privacy. The hostel has handicap access to the dorms through an elevator next to the reception.
Common Spaces
The common room is a chillout area at the reception, rebuilt from having been a car repair shop. The electric winch is still mounted on its rail in the ceiling! Here the breakfast buff is served caf style every day of the week for 5. Throughout the day there are refreshments served at very reasonable prices. At the reception there is also a small area with lockers and PC for free web-browsing (yes, internet is free and available throughout the are with Wifi.
Summary
Fresh new concept hostel with a family feel, run by 2 brothers and with their mom preparing great breakfast buffet every morning. Very reasonably priced and clean bed-sheets are included in the price. Combined with all the anemities and speedy Wifi makes it an ideal short term stay for the weary business travellers as well as students and globetrotters.Opened early October 2014 so everything feels fresh and new. As its so new it also means there are improvements being implemented continously so don't be surprised if there suddenly is a new cupboard or coat-hanger in the dorm.
Beautiful hall, room not so beautiful but very new, clean, with a very comfortable bed
Probably the price is right for what you get
Had my first hostel experience at Wallyard concept hostel. And it was a really good one!!! Check in and contact went really nice, oppertunity to ask questions aswell.
Really nice location, close to public transport (2 a 3 minits walking) and close to some really good restaurants and burger places, the staff was sooooo nice and helpfull!
really gave some good tips and where verry social! good looking unique and cute people!
I would reccomend this hostel!
Nice room, clean facilities and friendly staff.
Liked: Very friendly staff Didn't like: Nothing, really
Liked: The reception area and common room is very nicely decorated. Didn't like: Location - about a 6 minute walk to the U-9, but the area around the hostel is not well lit or very populated. I felt slightly uncomfortable being a solo female traveler and walking alone to the train station. The hostel was also not near any of the activities or destinations I wanted to see. The key situation was a bit strange. You have to type in a 6 digit code on the keypad to enter the building, but it changes every morning so you have to go to reception to get the new code.
The bathrooms were spacious enough to allow you to get dressed without getting your clothes wet. There were hairdryers attached to the walls near the mirrors. The people were friendly and it was quiet and clean.
Liked: The staffs there are very nice and helpful. Didn't like: No.
Liked: Very cozy and convenient Didn't like: A little tiny with only one bath and toilet on the floor
Liked: the staff were so amazing and so helpful showing you what to do and see and how to get there. The hostel had a really nice atmosphere Didn't like: there is no kitchen or cooking facilities
This hostel has the nicest staff I have ever met! Everyone was always so friendly and helpfull. The atmosphere of this hostel is also very good. They have an excellent common room where Nice people are usually hanging around, ready for a drink and a good chat. The rooms are clean and comfortable, with lockers, table and chairs and individual power sockets. My only complain is that the bedroom is dark... The lights could be more powerful. And another bad thing was the bathroom... Although it was always clean, it was only one toilet, one shower and two sinks for lots of people staying in the same floor to share. And there was no soap to wash the hands, and no way to dry them. I suggest more bathrooms, and separate for men and women.
Very nice and helpful staff, beautiful lobby!
Liked: The best part of Wallyard Hostel was the staff. The people who worked there were incredibly personable and helpful from start to finish. Didn't like: The main thing I didn't like about the hostel was the location. It wasn't very bad, but it took 20 minutes or more to get to the center of Berlin. It would've been nicer to have been within walking distance.
Liked: The hostel itself is awesome! They have a great lounge area, the staff is amazing, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. Didn't like: The neighborhood was a bit sketchy and far from the places I wanted to visit.
