Batumi Surf Hostel, this recently refurbished hostel with the friendliest of staff, is the perfect place to escape the scorching Batumi sun.
The Location
The hostel is perfectly located -- you can walk there within fifteen minutes from where the buses will drop you next to the cable car, It is only a five-minute walk to the Black Sea and right nearby to Europe Square and the huge park that runs through the city -- a perfect place to escape the heat. The hostel is located at the back of a restaurant and down a little side alley, so keep an eye out for the entrance. You can find many restaurants and bars as well as supermarkets nearby.
Rooms and Bathrooms
This hostel has just been through a refurbishment and is looking great. Although there are a few small things that need to be touched up, it is very nice and super clean. The dorms are spacious and the beds are comfortable and fully surrounded by curtains; they have lockers big enough to store your full backpacks in and they provide the lock and key for you. The bathrooms are very spacious with an open shower, toilet, and sink in each, however there are no shower screens, so it can get very wet and slippery in there, but luckily there are enough hooks far enough away to keep all your items dry.
Common Spaces
The hostel has an open-plan kind of feel, with a social area full of bean bags and couches with a large TV if you are looking to chill inside in the air conditioning. They also have some tables out the front where you can hang with other travelers until 11 p.m. and a beer fridge where you can purchase some beverages. They also have a fabulous kitchen, with a ton of space, and a place to sit and eat and lots of room to store food. An added bonus is the free coffee all day!
Summary
This hostel has great and very new-looking facilities, and the staff are very friendly and willing to help, especially when it comes to organising transport and taxis. They have the area and spaces to be the perfect social hostel, but that will definitely be dependent on the other guests staying there.
