Durness Smoo is a refuge from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The youth hostel, a simple little wooden building, overlooks the famous Smoo Cave. There is a well-equipped kitchen and a very efficient drying room. The lounge, heated by a coal-burning stove, is cosy and peaceful.

Liked: the extreme effort put into keeping the kitchen area and equipment clean--towels provided in dorms/rooms-- Didn't like: the building is old hence damp and foistey despite being ventilated and heated--only one male shower not enough--especially when some ignorant pigs spend 25 minutes in there. one staff member was less than sociable,but we only had to suffer his presence for less than an hour on our last morning

Liked: Really nice viewNice bed Didn't like: Just one electric plug for a dormitory. Really not enough to charge your phone, cameras and others electric device. That's the only bad point of this hostel except the fact that it is not a youth hostel but just a hostel cause elderly people are not youth people
