Plitvice BearPacker Reviews

Plitvice Backpackers is a small hostel in a good-sized, four-bedroom house, catering mostly to those who need accommodation close to Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia. The owner, Leo, provides a very friendly environment and offers services other hostels or hotels don't (which include free pick-up at one of the Plitvice Lakes stops upon arrival from noon to 11 p.m., free drop-off at the park in the morning, and a free trip to the grocery store in the evening; however, pick up from the park and other transfers will cost you a small, per-person fee). Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, and when available, works really well (the internet went out for part of a day when we were there, but this was after a lightning strike hit the house, so it may be better in the future). This property isn't handicap accessible. It is a smoke-free building.

The Location

The hostel is located just under ten kilometers from Plitvice Lakes National Park, just a few minutes by car or bus to the park. Getting to the hostel is easy -- contact the proprietor when you arrive at one of the designated bus stops and he will pick you up at the stop (between noon and 11 p.m.). There is also a bus stop across the street from the hostel, where some bus drivers are willing to stop. The hostel is ideal for seeing Plitvice Lakes National Park as transportation is provided, and it takes approximately ten minutes to arrive to or from the park. There aren't any shops or eateries located nearby, but if you are there in the evening, the owner, Leo, will take you on a grocery run. Parking is also available for free at the hostel.

Rooms and Bathrooms

There are four air-conditioned/heated dorms, some with a balcony or deck. The dorm beds are either singles or bunk beds that are sturdy and comfortable. Linens are included in the price of the hostel (as well as two thick blankets per bed). There is a lamp located next to each bed as well as at least one outlet. Each guest is provided with a key to a large locker located in the dorms. There's enough space in each dorm. Wi-Fi is available in the dorms. It is forbidden to either use a sleeping bag on the beds or to have food in the dorms.

There is one shared bathroom per floor (two bathrooms total). Sometimes this creates a traffic jam, as there can be quite a few people waiting for a bathroom. The hot water is limited and the proprietor requests that guests limit their showers to ten minutes each, so that hot water remains available for all. There was always hot water available during our stay. The bathroom on the third floor has very limited head space, especially over the toilet, which may be an issue for people who are tall. Hand soap is provided in the bathroom. The bathrooms and dorms are clean.

Common Spaces

Reception is located on the second floor, while common areas for guests are located on the ground floor, including a living room area with TV, a dining room table, a kitchen, and a deck area. Guests have full use of the kitchen, with sufficient utensils and dishes provided. Tea and coffee are provided free. Washing and washing/drying is available for a fee.

This is a great place to stay if you are visiting Plitvice Lakes National Park. The location is serene, and the atmosphere is great, with a very accommodating proprietor. If you are visiting the park in one day (which is enough time to do the entire park), we recommend staying at the hostel the night before, catching a free ride to the park in the morning to Entrance Two, where you can leave your bags for free, and catching your bus or ride to your next destination at the end of the day.

Awesome place!

Found out about the place through word of mouth (someone at another hostel I was staying highly recommended the place) and glad I switched to staying here. The place is clean, comfortable, and near to the park. The manager, Leo, is really awesome as well. (Leo gave one of the guests a football tee when the guest mentioned he's a fan of Zagreb's football team. How's that for hospitality.) Would want to stay here again if I am in the area again. Thanks for the awesome experience, Leo!

Great hostel!

Stayed here for 3 nights. This hostel is ideal for anybody visiting the park whether you're solo or in a group it is very clean with great view, kitchen, lounge room outdoor area -- feels like your at home. Manager is a champion, very nice! The ideal place to hang after you've been walking all day!! No complaints here!

All around great hostel

Can't go wrong staying here. Close to the Plitvice park, great service (Leo, the owner, is awesome), really clean, really cool location (the terrace and front porch have an amazing view), and the atmosphere is pretty chill. Definitely staying here again if I come back.
