Casa Seibel is a very well-taken-care-of hostel in the heart of Quetzaltenango (Xela).
From the main bus terminal you would need to take a taxi or collectivo (shared van) to reach the centre of Xela. Casa Seibel is located within Zone One, very close to the center of the city and Parque Central (less than a five-minute walk away). Within very close walking distance you can also find a supermarket, a small market, food stands, restaurants, bars, and all the amenities that you would expect from a large city. The main market of the town is about a twenty-minute walk away. Make sure to pay close attention to the houses on the street, as there is no hostel advertisement outside, apart from a small poster saying Casa Seibel, so it's easy to miss.
Rooms and Bathrooms
There are dormitories as well as private rooms on offer. All rooms are spacious and nicely decorated, one of the private ones actually also includes a piano. Dorms have six beds and no bunks. Each bed is assigned a drawer and a corresponding lock and there are a couple of sockets available for each bed, while there is also a small changing area in the corner. Furthermore, there is an internet connection available, with very good signal in the garden. There are two bathrooms available, both with hot water, and you are provided with a tower for free when arriving. The rooms and the bathrooms are thoroughly cleaned every morning.
When entering, you immediately notice that the hostel is kept to high standards, as you are welcomed by a very colorful garden. It is equipped with a table, chairs, a bench, and a hammock, so it is a good place to relax or meet fellow travelers. At the back, there is another common open area, more simple than the front one, where you can also smoke. There is a also a kind of dining room; a living room with a TV, sofas, and a large selection of movies; as well as a kitchen with all the relevant equipment and utensils. In general, the common areas are very spacious. It's not particularly a party kind of hostel but it does have a good vibe and it is easy to socialize if that's what you seek.
The owners and staff are always around and are happy to help out with information, or booking tours or shuttles. All in all, the reasonable prices and the good quality of the building and the services available make this hostel an excellent option.
