Vivo Escondido Hostel is a nice, chilled-out hostel just a few minutes from the beach, with a funky, artsy vibe and delicious breakfast.
The Location
This place is just a few streets away from the beach as well as the strip of restaurants and cafes. This hostel is in a great location to soak up the beachside town of Puerto Escondido. You are only a fifteen-minute walk away from the ADO bus terminal or a short, inexpensive taxi ride if you want to avoid the heat. You have a small supermarket nearby, and the larger banks and restaurant area is around a twenty-minute walk away.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Recently renovated, this hostel has custom-made bunks that are perfect, your own shelves and plug socket above your beds, and super comfortable mattresses. The rooms have air conditioning during the night, which is a must in this heat, but also some fans to get you through that afternoon nap. There are lockers large enough to store your whole bag as well as hooks on the end of each bed to hang up your towels.
The bathrooms aren't the best; they're super clean but just a little small. The shower cubicles don't give you any space to hang your stuff; there is a hook outside the door but you have to open the door to grab it.
There is a shelf in the shower to put soap and shampoo. The toilets are separate, but it's the same setup -- small cubicles all in a row. There is one proper-sized bathroom, with basin shower and toilet downstairs, so definitely try to jump in that. The problem we found is that there really isn't anywhere for you to get changed other than the rooms.
Common Spaces
This is a pretty social, chilled-out hostel. You have a pool and seating area outside to chill as well as an inside lounge/dining room. There is also an upstairs terrace area for when it's not too hot. There is also a fully stocked kitchen to whip up your own meals, and a delicious free breakfast that changes most mornings. There is plenty of space to meet people and chill out; they have a bar and it is a super relaxed hostel.
Summary
This hostel is possibly one of the most chilled places we have visited. It is in a great location for the beach and the free breakfast is delicious; it's a good place to simply hang out, but you may end up chilling here and not venturing out much.

• We are located two blocks up from the popular cafe Cafecito, on the corner of Calle Barriletes and Calle Mantarrayas in the Rinconada - you can't miss us! You can walk to basically anything that you need and if you want to explore other neighborhoods in Puerto Escondido, a taxi costs only 30 pesos.
• Directions on how to reach Vivo Escondido Hostel:
• The ADO bus terminal is a short 3 minute taxi ride (25 pesos) away from Vivo Escondido, the airport is approximately 5 minutes away (35 pesos).
• Directions from the Puerto Escondido bus station:
• 1. Head west on Costera/México 200 towards 1a. Pte
• 2. Turn left onto Guelatao
• 3. Turn left onto Tehuantepec
• 4. Take the 2nd right onto Barracudas
• 5. Take the 1st left onto Barriletes
• 6. Vivo Escondido Hostel will be on your left at the corner of Mantarrayas.
