Good location

Very well located, walking distance from bus station and attractions, clean bed, great welcome from employees who spoke French and English with us. We stayed one night so didn't get to use the kitchen and common spaces, but looked clean and comfy. The only negative we can say is that the room was not very well insonorized, meaning we could hear everything going on outside the room. All in all, great stay!

This is a TOP hostel, only choice if visiting Tomar!

Best located accommodation in Tomar. Right on the main pedestrian street Rua Serpa Pinto 43.

The bus and train station is an easy 10 minute walk away. To get to the hostel first head right until Av Condestavel, turn left, at the roundabout go down the alleyway Rua Moinhos and once on the main street turn to your right and the hostel is just a few buildings further down. You are 10 minutes from the entrance to the castle (walks up the steep path) 5 minutes from the church and park and there is a small supermarket and plenty of cafes and restaurants on the main street.

The hostel is amazing. Opened in May 2013 the decor and facilities are all brand new and it has everything you could need. The building is converted from offices and there are dorms on the first floor and private rooms on the second floor. You will have to carry your bags up a flight of stairs to get to reception and one more if you are in a private room as there are no lifts. Rooms and common areas are very clean with all the conveniences you need. Full kitchen on the second floor is fitted with a fridge, stove top, kettle and toaster. No breakfast included here. A small dining room next to it has 2 tables and a few power points dotted around, though the Wi-Fi doesn't reach this far. The common room leads off the reception and has flat day beds as lounges, TV, games and 3 computers to access the Internet for free - only qualm is that the chairs are pretty uncomfortable. There is also a small patio if you want to sit outside and try to catch some sun.

The rooms are each decorated with a different theme so have brightly coloured walls and artwork or murals painted on them. The dorm rooms are a good size, not too cramped and have large lockers for each person. Beds are firm yet comfortable and have good blankets and pillows. There are a few power points around the room, but again the Wi-Fi doesn't seem to reach all of the rooms. You may get lucky though if you stay closer to reception. Rooms facing the main street have a small balcony and when you look to the side you even have a view over to the Templar Castle.

Bathrooms are separate toilets and showers with good facilities and always clean. There are 2 toilets for each on the first floor and 4 showers plus another toilet on the top floor.

Tomar is a rural town with a small historic centre on the west of the river. There is not so much to see apart from the fantastic and beautiful Castle (worth the small entry fee) and to wander through the park and old streets. If you are into horse riding you should ask reception to call one of the riding schools and they can even pick you up from town and drop you back as they did for us. It's a small town not high on the tourist must see list so the hostel can be pretty quiet, but it has a very friendly atmosphere and guests seem happy to chat and get to know one another. I highly recommend a stop in Tomar, one or two nights is plenty but you should definitely stay at the wonderful Hostel 2300 Tomar when you are there. It is one of the best hostels you will find anywhere!
