Hostal Capurgana is right in the main center of Capurganá, which is a small village in Colombia right next to the border with Oanama. As it's located on the beach and next to the jungle, it is only accessible by plane or boat as there are no roads around. The hostel seems to attract most of the backpackers there, probably having deals with several tour companies.
it is located on the Main Street, right next to the harbour, so it’s only a two-minute walk for all of those (or almost everybody) that arrives to Capurganá by boat. For those few people that arrive by plane, the airport is not far away and the hostel can organize a transport there. A few small restaurants and shops are around. Also the Colombian immigration office is right in front, very convenient for those arriving from Panama.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Rooms have bunk beds and have an average quality. Mattresses are fine, and there is no air conditioning but there are fans -- it’s usually not very hot at night, so fan should be enough. Lockers are available but you need to bring your own padlock. The room is quite small, so there is not much space with the backpacks on the floor. There is one bathroom inside the room, with toilet and shower together, and one common one for the hostel near the lobby. The rooms are in general clean but the bathrooms don’t seem to receive much attention.
There is an open space in front of the lobby with tables and chairs, and inside the hostel the area gets bigger with some sofas as well. Rooms are on the ground floor and the first floor. The hostel doesn’t have a kitchen, unfortunately. The hostel prepares the breakfast but you have to pay for it. There is not much vibe and people are usually staying for a night before going to Panama or right after coming from it, on their way to Colombia.
There is Wi-Fi but it works on and off -- considering the remote location of Capurganá, it is to be expected.
In general, this hostel serves just as a one-night break for the border crossing to Panama or for those coming to Colombia. It's not a fun or sociable place and there's not much to do around, but it offers a fair sleep and a good place to just stay for a night.
