The Hostelz.com Review - Genuine, independent review you can trust.
Corner Hostel Berlin is a small, cosy, and well-furnished hostel that has the feel of a homestay. Yet it has a low review score for a clear reason. The owner or "mum" of the hostel is ever-present -- cleaning and organising --and this totally kills the atmosphere of the hostel. Guests will talk in low voices and will be on their best behaviour. The facilities, however, are great and if you're looking for a relaxing, long stay somewhere, then this is your place. Be aware you will also be charged a further fee for bedsheets unless you bring you own.
The Location
It's a very long walk from the city center; therefore, you will be paying for trams every time you go sightseeing. Take the subway to Bornholmer Street, then swap to the tram across the road. Head one stop east to Bjornsnons Street, then walk east a hundred yards past the computer store, and take the first right turn. You will see the hostel on the corner straight ahead.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Dorms and private are spotlessly clean; spacious; and come with big, comfy beds. There are secure lockers in the dorms, for which you will need your own lock; each room is very quiet, due to the location of the property. There are plenty of toilets and bathrooms, which have lovely, hot showers; these are also cleaned thoroughly. Wi-Fi is fast and present throughout the building, and for security each dorm has only one key, which must be left at reception when the last person goes out.
Common Spaces
The common area is a large, open-plan living room and dining room. If it were a normal house, it would be exactly the same. There's a large TV with sofas, a long dining table, and some comfy seating. It's decorated to a high standard and really is a lovely place to chill after a day in the city; it's just a shame that "mum" is almost always hanging around there too. There is also an excellent kitchen, which you can freely use. This contains more utensils than you could ever need and comes with two fridges, a cooker (the oven was not working at the time of arrival), microwave, and toaster.
Summary
If you're looking for a vibrant hostel, then look elsewhere. However, if you're in Berlin for a while and looking for a more homey and quiet hostel, then this place is perfect. You'll likely get an older crowd here, and the size of the property means that you'll most likely meet everyone at some point. In the evenings, you'll regularly see people gathered around the TV watching football and it's a lovely place to share dinner too.
