Coffee Home Hostel

The Review

Coffee Home is a great hostel located in the center of Lviv, Ukraine. The prices are average for Lviv and you receive much more than you can expect for that price -- plus, the receptionists are very friendly.

The Location
The location can hardly be better. It is one minute on foot from the Central Square in Lviv and a great starting point for a sightseeing tour. There are trams and buses, which could take you directly to the hostel from the train station, the bus station, or the airport. And even taxis are not expensive. You need to walk only a few minutes to see and visit the City Hall, the National Opera, the National Gallery, museums, churches, and galleries.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Coffee Home offers dorms and private rooms. The blankets and the linens are free. Moreover, the the beds are spacious and comfortable. The rooms are very big, with a table and chairs, and are cleaned regularly. There are eight- and ten-bed rooms with bunk beds. The lockers are in the rooms and you pay a small deposit for them.

The bathrooms are clean and comfortable. There are not enough showers -- only two showers with two toilets. Normally, it is ok, but sometimes, you may need to wait a bit. The showers are very big and quite nice.

Common Spaces

One great thing is that laundering is free, even if you have to wash several loads. This is great, as most hostels charge for it and some of them ask quite a lot for a load. The kitchen is small with stove eyes and a microwave and a refrigerator but without an oven. However, you can eat out as there many restaurants in the neighborhood. There is also fast Wi-Fi. You must check out by noon but you can leave your luggage in the hostel and take it later. There is also a deposit but you will get it back when you check out. The common space is nice but not very big so it can get crowded if the hostel is full. It is ok to have a few beers at Coffee Home. However, there are many bars and pubs within walking distance and you can have a drink there as the prices are not high.

The receptionists speak very good English and they are ready to help you with information -- or with the laundry machine or ordering a taxi. Feel free to ask them for help, they are friendly and easygoing.

Overall, the hostel is very good and it is a great deal for that price. It is definitely a smart choice to stay while in Lviv.

Poorly Staffed
Arrived at the hostel and thought the central location was great! Once we paid we were told to wait till later/afternoon to check in. We came back at 2pm but had to wait till after 3:20 to rest after our journey. Unfortunately the service is really pathetic. The hostel is run by staff still in their adolescent years with the usual consequences -- filthy toilets, areas under the beds full of accumulated dust, sheets that do not get changed, they do not know what to do when the internet router drops everyone off the wifi, the toilet paper runs out often ... all the while they are surfing or chatting with the friends or sleeping with their girlfriends in the empty rooms! Too Bad! I wonder if the Owners know what is going on at this home hostel?
