Safestay is not safe -- stolen computer
At my last day at the hostel, I left my bags at the room they reserve for keeping the luggage and my computer was stolen. It was a closed room for which only the employees had the key. The employee at the reception helped find a police station but they didn't take any responsibility for what had happened. Anyway, I don't recommend to trust the employees at this hostel with valuable stuff. It is a very big hostel and it seems they don't have control for what happens in there. Too bad because the rooms are very big and spacious, and the location is pretty ok. I was there in July 2018.
Fairly nice hostel
This hostel was very nice and generally clean. The rooms were nice, big, and clean. The kitchen was filthy and the wifi didn't work some of the time, but I really appreciated the free breakfast. Overall it was a good hostel for the two nights I was there and in a good location.
Really nice hostel
The facility is extremely nice. Rooms are huge, living rooms on each floor as well as in the lobby. Staff super friendly. Wifi worked everywhere. Only few downsides were that the people there didn't seem too open to meeting others and most were just on their phones not talking (not the hostel's fault though). Underground bar is open Wednesday to Sunday. It got super loud when it was open and was a little hard. Nice location close to the metro and downtown.
Nice place and clean
I had a great time at the U hostel in madrid too bad it was for a short while. I hope to be back in Spain soon.
U Hostels Madrid Hostel is a large hostel located within walking distance to most attractions in Madrid. Formerly a palace, this old building has been updated to offer just about anything you may need for your stay in central Madrid.
The Location
U Hostels is situated on a major street that is simple to locate. With a bus service and metro in Madrid, this place is easy to get to. If you ride with Busabout, you can even be dropped off at the front door!
Rooms and Bathrooms
Dorm rooms are available with anywhere from four to twelve beds. Private rooms and female-only rooms are also offered. There are several floors of door rooms, which are all accessible to those with limited mobility thanks to an elevator system. Each bed has a cubby with an outlet by the head of the bed, plus each person gets their own locker. Tables and mirrors are also in some rooms. Each room is accessed by a personal RFID card.
Bathrooms are located on each floor and consist of a row of small private rooms with either a shower or toilet inside. This is next to a long line of sinks. There are always at least a few rooms that are spotless, so bathroom cleanliness isn't much of a problem. While the rooms are small, the shower rooms have enough hooks to hang a towel and a change of clothes, as well as a rack inside the shower to set toiletries.
Common Spaces
Common spaces at U Hostels are unique and plentiful! Our favorite is the movie room, which has staircase seating filled with lots of pillows and cushions. This is right next to the computer room. The breakfast room can also be accessed most hours and is adjacent to the kitchen. The kitchen is a bit small when compared to the size of the hostel, but it does include everything you might need. In the morning, you can get either churros or toast along with a drink, and they also sell additional food items. In the basement is a hostel-owned bar. If those aren't enough common spaces, there is an area on each floor with a water fountain, table, beanbag, and even a swing!
Summary
Once you've decided to stay a few nights at U Hostels, you will be surprised at all they have to offer in Madrid. With everything from tourist maps to guided tours, U Hostels is a great starting point for a full Madrid holiday!
Clean, comfortable, great facilities, and location.
This is a fantastic hostel! Great location -- two metro lines nearby, easy to get to from airport and easy access to both major stations. This hostel caters for everyone and provides a welcoming and friendly environment. Helpful staff, good kitchen, great beds and rooms -- including individual power points and lights. Liked it so much booked again for when I returned to Madrid. Definitely recommend this hostel.
Great hostel -- Clean, plenty of activities, friendly staff
This is a great hostel that is in a central location with easy access to the metro. It is very clean -- bathrooms are cleaned every day and the common areas are kept neat and tidy. Beds are fairly comfortable and the staff are willing to help with any questions you might have. There are daily activities including free walking tours, pub crawls, tapas tours, and flamenco. These are well-organized and great experiences all around!
Solid pick in Madrid
This hostel is brand new and designed with comfort in mind. Each bed has a reading lamp with an outlet and storage nook, and the lockers in each room are convenient, if not spacious enough to accommodate an entire backpack. (I got around this by locking up valuables but placing my backpack under the bed.) The bathrooms are very well designed, each shower offering a staging area, hooks, and anti slip mat, as well as plentiful hot water. The is area is spacious and light, and impeccably clean, is the rest of the hostel. Wifi is strong both in the common areas and bedrooms. The only constructive criticism would be the included breakfast, which is just white toast with jam, which offers no proton to fuel your exploration of the city. Additionally, the hostel was not very social, and some of the workers and administrators seemed very cold, except for the wonderful man who worked at the front desk on my last day. Definitely recommended, ESP if you're traveling in a group and already have a built-in social circle. If you're traveling alone, I would accept a hostel with fewer amenities and a more social atmosphere.
