Moon Eleven Hostel - Near Klia & Klia2

The Review

Moon Eleven (near LCCT & KLIA) is a small specialist hostel in a good-sized, four-bedroom house, catering mostly to those who need accommodation close to KLIA – Kuala Lumpur International Airport. It has good Wi-Fi, is secure, is nonsmoking, and has a very friendly environment based on the efforts of the proprietor.

The Location

The hostel is sited two kilometers or so from the nearest KLIA Transit station, Salak Tinggu, just a few minutes from the both airport terminals. Getting to the hostel is easy -- contact the proprietor in advance and if possible again from the airport or train (both of which have good, free Wi-Fi access), and she will pick you up at the station. The hostel is not ideal for seeing Kuala Lumpur, but if you are staying at the hostel and only have a day or two here, taking the train into the city is not a bad option. Just a a kilometre away is the local modern suburb centre with convenience shops and many cheap and good eating places.

Rooms and Bathrooms

There are two air-conditioned dorms, each with a window though without en suite, with one dorm usually reserved for females only, and there's also one private room with en suite. The dorm bunk beds are sturdy and comfortable and not inclined to squeak and groan when anyone turns over! There are, though, no individual power points or lights. There's enough space in each but no more.

There is only one shared bathroom for dorm guests, but it never seems an issue, perhaps because people are arriving and leaving flights at so many different times. An on-demand electric water heater ensures there is always a hot shower available with body wash and shampoo supplied free. The bathrooms and dorms are clean and fresh.

Common Spaces

There's no separate reception; it's part of the main common area where there are just about all the things expected in a much larger hostel, tourist info, good Wi-Fi that is free, a free PC, power point adapters (so important if you have just arrived to a new standard), a book exchange, and a TV/DVD. Free lockers are available to lock up valuables. Guests also have full use of the kitchen. Tea and coffee are provided free as is a toast and jam breakfast, but there are no cold drinks for sale. A washing machine is available for a small fee.

This is a great place to stay if you are flying in or out of KLIA, (CLLT is the old name for KLIA 2) especially at difficult times. The atmosphere is great, though some guests who have not stayed in this more homestay-type of hostel before might find it a bit strange at first -- but not for long, as they will be made very welcome. The reviewers will definitely stay here again when traveling through the area, a major hub of budget air travel.
