Description

The Hostelz.com Review

Old Town Hostel includes the Old Town Hostel East Wing and Old Town Hostel West Wing. During the peak season, the hostel expands as necessary and uses both the East & West Wings and then may close a wing as the town gets less busy. The Hostel is in an old 13th century building which provides an authentic experience in Kotor's historic Old Town. Strong WiFi is available for free and can be used throughout the hostel, including the rooms. Free breakfast is provided that consists of fried eggs, fresh French bread and meat.

The Location

Old Town Hostel is well-located inside Kotor's Old Town, just a few minutes walk, 100 meters from the Old Town's side entrance (there are only 2 entrance's to the hostel, the front entrance & the side entrance). It is about a 5 to 10-minute walk from the main bus station and very easy to find using directions provided by the hostel.

From the hostel, you only have to walk a few steps to get to the shops, bars, restaurants and the main attractions of the Old Town, including the main cathedral and the hike to the city fortress.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Old Town Hostel has a variety of room configurations. There are numerous dorm rooms with 5, 6, 7, 8 and 12-bed options, all of which are en suite. There are also numerous private double rooms that are en suite, and there is one apartment available in the East Wing. All of the rooms require a key to enter. In order to enter the wings, there is a numerical keypad to open the main doors.

There are large lockers in the dorm rooms. All bedding, including blankets, is provided as well as free towels. Each room, including the dorm rooms, has a small kitchenette with a sink, small refrigerator and microwave - these are the only kitchen facilities available for guest use. The rooms have air conditioning and charging points.

Each room is en suite and though the bathrooms are small, there is ample space for one person to shower and change clothes. The bathrooms are clean; the showers have good pressure and ample hot water. Each bathroom has soap at the sink and a hairdryer.

Common Spaces

Old Town Hostel has a really nice and spacious common area as well as space for sitting and relaxing at the reception area. There is no outdoor seating. The common area contains lots of places for sitting, tables, chairs and sofas. It is a popular and social hostel where it is easy to mix and mingle with other travelers. The hostel organizes a pub crawl but is not otherwise a "party" hostel. Even when a crowd gathers in the common area, the rooms are far enough away to remain quiet.

Summary

Overall, Old Town Hostel is an excellent choice for your stay in Kotor. The staff is available to answer any questions about the town and city maps are available for free. The hostel also organizes a variety of tours within Kotor and can assist with transfers to neighboring cities. There are also sign-up sheets in the main reception area for people to use to organize on their own shared cars to other cities.

Great place
Location is great, in the old town, and from the south gate, just go straight ahead. The place itself is really nice stone building, and very nice interior also. Staff were really friendly and helpful. In the rooms there was a fridge and a basic kitchen. There's a bigger kitchen downstairs in the common area/reception for cooking meals. For €5 they'll do dinner for you, which is convenient. They can also do breakfast, but it's also easy to self-cater (there are supermarkets and bakeries nearby). At night everyone congregated in the common area. There's no bar but there's a shop next door that sells cold beer and is open until midnight. There are also organised tours from the hostel, and the staff tried to arrange carpooling and taxi-sharing for the guests. All up a great place.

Fantastic Hostel
Of the 12 hostels I've stayed in throughout Europe over the past 3 months, this one is by far my favorite. The friendliness of the staff played a large part in that. Nikolai and the other employees were so welcoming and helpful. They also had different events planned most of the nights that made it easy to meet and talk to other travelers. The rooms were spacious and had linen/towels provided. The bathrooms, while a bit cramped, were cleaned everyday. The price is also hard to beat, especially since they are located directly within the Old Town. Overall, a fantastic place to stay.

Welcoming, beautiful, fun
My husband and I stayed only one night but felt very welcomed and enjoyed the conviviality of this hostel. The common area was well used and encouraged interesting interactions. The building is beautiful and comfortable and we enjoyed the Old Town location. Thanks Ross!

Excellent Stay
Old Town Hostel Kotor was excellent for me and my friend in many ways. First of all atmosphere is amazing. City, narrow roads and of course interior of hostel. Second, owners are amazing people. Alex and Slavenko deserve the best rating. I hope you will enjoy your stay in Kotor.

Staff is helpful, friendly, knowledgeable, and generous with the Rakia. The common area is inviting with good music and a a chilled out vibe. For staying in the old town of Kotor the price is hard to beat. Highly recommend.
