HI - Chengdu - Dreams Travel Hostel, a nice place located in the Tibetan square, in the city center of Chengdu, provides all the average facilities with a good value for money.
This hostel is centrally located near buses, shops, restaurants, and other facilities. If you're traveling in another cities in China, probably the best way to reach Chengdu is by train - the hostel provides a pickup (but not for free), and you need to call them in advance to arrange the time of arrival. You can also easily reach the hostel by taxi or by bus (if you don't speak Mandarin, this transport can be more complicated because of the language barrier. This hostel is also really near Wuhuo Temple (just across the road), which is worth a visit.
Rooms and Bathrooms
This hostel offers a lot of accommodation on a budget (dorms, singles, and double rooms). In the time of check-in you will need to pay a key deposit, refundable at checkout. They offer free linen, but you need to make your own bed. The dorm rooms are with bunk beds, and are separated by gender. The rooms are clean, and big enough for you to keep your belongings. In the rooms there are reading lights on each bed, there are small tables and closets where you can keep your things (you have to have your own locker). If you don't want to keep your values in here, on every floor there are safety boxes that you can use, but they are not free. The hostel has four floors and they don't have a lift, so if you are carrying big bags it can be a constraint.
There are showers and bathrooms on every floor, separated by gender. There are a few Western toilets; there are mostly Chinese toilets and the hostel doesn't provide toilet paper, so buy in advance. The toilets at night are a bit messy, the staff should pay more attention to that. The showers have enough pressure and have hot water, plus enough space for you to keep your clothes and shower kit, but it's outside the shower area (this should be changed).
There are a lot of places for you to seat and meet other people -- on the 1st floor, there are a lot of tables and chairs (outside and inside) and a pool table. Inside, there are two computers with internet that you can use, but you need to pay. If you have your your computer, the hostel provides free Wi-Fi, easily reachable from any part, except in the rooms. The small restaurant is also on the first floor, but they deliver the food on every floor, including in your room - the prices are the average for a hostel in China. On the fourth floor, there is a lovely terrace with TV, sofas, and tables and chairs -- the perfect place to relax. The hostel also has a tour agency, but the staff members don't seem to know a lot about their tours (sometimes, they can mislead you).
This hostel is a nice choice in Chengdu, with a nice price and average facilities.
