Rossco Backpackers Hostel San Cristobal is comfortable and clean, and has a good location -- what more could you want?
The Location
Rossco has a pretty good location, a bit north of the main hub of the city but well situated between this hub and the sites of interest to the north. The main area of buses and collectivos is a reasonable walk to the south, but there are plenty of taxis roaming around to help you get there. All the major sights, markets, and attractions are within easy walking distance of the hostel, and while there aren't too many restaurants or shops in the immediate vicinity there are plenty of restaurants down on the main drag of Guadalupe Street near the centre. Self-caterers will have to make the decision whether to do the best they can out of the convenience stores nearby or brave the municipal mercado down the road.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Dorm rooms are eight-, ten-, and fourteen-bed affairs with the option of a female-only dorm as well. The doors to the dorms don't lock, but each bed has an assigned locker for use (bring your own lock). Beds are bunk beds and are very comfortable and quite private; the beds have screens to cover the top half of the bed. Each bed also has its own power socket and light. Private rooms include single-, double-, and triple-bed rooms with the option of an en suite bathroom.
There are sufficient bathrooms and showers, which are all clean and decently roomy. There is a reasonable amount of space in the showers with some hooks and shelving for toiletries and clothes, but the dorm rooms also have a curtained-off changing room available as well.
Common Spaces
Common spaces are plentiful and comfortable. The kitchen is large and decently stocked with everything you could require for basic cooking. There are a few other nooks and crannies around the hostel in which to hang out, with a lounge area next to the entrance (with book exchange); patio area outside the kitchen; upstairs deck; and cozy, bean-bagged TV room/attic. Plus there is plenty of grassy areas to lounge on or do yoga.
The hostel has a fun, chill vibe; the nice common areas make it easy to meet other travelers.
Summary
Rossco has a good location and great facilities. There is not much to fuss about, unless you are scared of dogs -- they have a few of them and they seem to rule the roost -- but if you love dogs or like a cozy vibe with your hostel, give Rossco a go.

Backpackers is a new hostel located a just two blocks from de main and popular indigene market in one of the oldest, history and safety neighborhoods of San Cristobal de las Casas, in the south east of Mexico, also our building have a colonial architecture with gorgeous and colorful gardens typical in Mexico in the century XIX when this building was created and now is part of the historic monuments of the city. This old construction was adapted in order to make a comfortable, colorful and nice hostel using the entire colonial and typical style. Our location is ideal for visitors placing them within easy reach of the most beautiful places of the city. We are just a few steps away from the great church dedicated to Santo Domingo, an impressive structure surrounded by a wonderful garden and craft market. We are just 5 minutes walking from the main square where you can find Restaurants, Stores, Cafe's, Bars and Clubs. The main market of the city is also located near from the hostel. You are going to find with us cleanness, excellent services, a lot of fun, friendly atmosphere, reasonable prices, friendly and helpful staff. From the bus station the taxi will cost $15v-$20mxp. In this hostel you can find girls dorms with private bathroom or mixted dorms with locker per person as well as privete rooms with bathroom hot water 24 hrs every guest can use the kitchen, Tv area and the reading area also every nigth we made fire where yoy can meet other travelers.

Walking distance is 1.7 km or 20 -25 min: From the main bus terminal take Insurgentes street to the north as the cars goes you will pass the Zocalo (main square). Keep going ahead until to 1 de marzo street take to your left as the car goes walk that direction only for one block, That corner is 1 de marzo & 20 de noviembre (wich is a peatonal street), Take to your right on 20 de noviembre. Keep going for only 4 blocks you will pass those streets: 28 de agosto street, escuadron 201 street, callejon guatemal and then is Real de mexicanos Street. In that corner you will find in your rigth hand the Santo domingo church with the artesanal market and the left hand in the corner a public toilets. So take your letf on real de mexicanos as the car goes for 1 1/2 block. We are in the number 16, wich in the left site of the street.
