Great Staff who go above and beyond to be helpful, reasonable rooms
Really friendly staff who genuinely enjoy and take pride in their work. The room was basic but had all the essentials. The hostel itself is a little tattered around the edges but it actually ended up feeling homey.
Somewhere to Stay is a hostel located in Brisbane's West End. It offers a free shuttle into the central business district of Brisbane, as well as having a pool, internet room, and several lounge areas.
The hostel is located about two or three blocks from Boundary Road, which is the main road of the West End. There are a multitude of cafes, restaurants, bars, boutiques, and other shops in this area. There is also a Cole's supermarket about a five-minute walk away. There are many bus routes that pass through this area, but the closest train station is the South Brisbane or South Bank train station, which are both about a ten-minute walk away. The CBD is about a thirty-minute walk.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The hostel offers dorms of several different sizes. The dorms are clean and comfortable, although there are no luggage storage areas inside the rooms themselves. The dorms are spread out over two buildings, and there are private rooms as well. The bathrooms and showers are clean, and there are enough that there doesn't seem to ever be a line for the facilities. The girls bathroom has a full length mirror as well.
The kitchen is very large and has several hobs and microwaves. You can rent bowls, plates, and cutlery from the reception by leaving a small deposit, which you get back when you return them. The kitchen is also complete with many large industrial fridges so that there is enough room for everyone's stuff. There are also vending machines with drinks and snacks in the kitchen area as well.
Just outside the kitchen, there is an area with several picnic benches to relax on. Inside the main building there is a television area and computer area where you can use the internet. And there is also a small pool for use by guests.
This hostel is good value for money, and is a great place for guests who want to stay in the quirky West End region of Brisbane. Since it is a little further out from the CBD, there is less street noise, making it great for those who want to get a little further away from the hustle and bustle of CBD Brisbane.
Very friendly and relaxed place to stay
I stayed here for nearly a month and it was a fairly clean place to stay and everyone was really, really friendly.
Good location in the West End and very cheap.
Bedbugs! Need I say more?
This hostel was ok but what was off putting is that although we didnt experience bedbugs firsthand we saw mattresses being pulled out everyday and hoovered because so many people were being bitten! it was disgusting. The reception staff were very unhelpful. TV room nice and big though and kitchen big too. No one told us we had to get our cutlery and plates from reception for a deposit so when it came to cooking the reception had closed and we had nothing to use to eat with (see unhelpful staff). the showers were filthy dirty!
Worst we ever stayed among backpackers in Australia
This is the worst backpackers we stayed in Australia. Paid for A$49 for a double bedroom on 22 May 08. The room smells and kitchen so dirty. Can't even find a spoon or fork, and all things so messy. We traveled over western australia and around gold coast. This is the worst place we ever stayed. The place also so old and not maintained. Toilets old and limited water. Sorry to say but I don't understand why is it rated so high. We just can't wait to get out of there for one-night stay. Staff are quite friendly, that's all we can say.
This was a pretty good place. Located in a quiet suburb a short walk from Southbank and the city. It's very clean, which was my main concern in Brisbane after hearing everyone tell me stories of filthy, infested hostels in Brisbane.
Stayed one Month in a double. Internet Access/Availability -- $5 per hour. Communal Kitchen (No Oven), Storage boxes available ($2 deposit), Fridges in some rooms, Utensils kit ($10 deposit). This hostel has a saltwater pool and a communal TV/DVD lounge. They also provide a free shuttle bus into the CBD every hour. Work Assistance -- Poorly managed notice board, no personal assistance. SomeWhereToStay is a motel-type hostel located in Brisbane's West End. The hostel consists of two two- to three-story, stilted houses, and is in a suburban area. The nearest station (South Brisbane) is ten minutes' walk, and the hostel is a twenty-five-minute walk from the centre of Brisbane. For those who don't like to walk a free shuttle bus runs from the hostel every hour. The facilities in this hostel are reasonably well laid out and cleaned to a reasonable standard everyday. There is a selection of rooms from Dorms to Doubles and Twins. The staff members are helpful and provide no reason to complain, however the work assistance at this hostel is poor. The hostel is located ten minutes' walk from the nearest Coles supermarkets, and is close the West End cafes and Restaurants.
I had a great time there! Nice and laidback staff. It's clean and a cool area. I really recommend this hostel!
