On top of my list
A very quiet place to sleep, with amazing staff who help you with anything you need even if it is the middle of the night. A lot of spaces for relaxation and playing, super fast internet, a huge garden and a lot of sunlight. Breakfast is included and it is all carefully picked and includes fresh fruits from the region. This place is on my top list and I would recommend anyone to give it a try, the money you pay are more than worth their value here.
Hostel Costel, in Timisoara, is open all year long. The service at the hostel is very good and you will not regret choosing Hostel Costel as your hostel in Timisoara.
The Location
The location is actually not very good. Hostel Costel is quite far from the center and you need either to take a tram to get there (and there are not many trams after 9 p.m.) or walk about forty minutes. The train and bus stations are also far -- it takes about thirty minutes by tram go get to the hostel. However, you do not need to change trams. You can also get from the airport, but this time, you need to change trams. Unarguably, there are hostels with a far better location. However, the neighborhood is very quiet and there are also interesting things to see.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Hostel Costel has eight- and ten-bed dorms plus private rooms. You get blankets, linens, and a free locker with a key. Hostel Costel is situated in an old but renovated ninety-year-old villa, so the rooms are huge and they have a lot of free space despite the bunk beds.
There are two showers and two toilets which is enough as the hostel is not very big. They are clean but there is not much space between the showers and the changing space is common so this is not very comfortable. The showers are mixed and you can shower beside someone from the opposite sex.
Common Spaces
You can use the washing machine and the dryer. The kitchen is extremely well equipped with everything that you can think of, including a great collection of teas, coffee, and different spices. You also have a breakfast included in the price. It is very good as you can eat as much as you want, the food is great and there is even homemade jam. The Wi-Fi is great. You check out by noon, but you can stay longer if your bed is not reserved. You may even have a nap. There is no deposit.
The common space is fantastic. It is enormous, very spacious, there is a big TV screen (more than forty inches), PlayStation with many games, and many board games -- and you can use all that for free. Plus, there is a huge garden with mattresses and hammocks to have a rest. You can even jump into a small bathtub outside. And this is great in the hot summer months.
Summary
Hostel Costel is a great place to stay and any traveler will definitely enjoy their stay at this amazing hostel.
We stayed an extra day. Highly recommended.
We really liked this place. The lady who ran the place was very nice! Perfect English, very helpful and made homemade jelly for breakfast. The place was very clean and big. Showers were nice. The dorms were big enough and the beds were comfy. There was also big windows so it didn't have that dorm smell that you sometimes get. Big living room with TV and I think a playstation or x-box. There was also another smaller room to hang out in. The kitchen was nice and had an oven that worked and a big table. Free normal hostel breakfast with toast, muslix and cornflakes. Free coffee and tea all day. Lots of places to plug in your phone. There was a huge garden out back with two old tubs as "Pools". It was 39 degrees (almost 100 F) so it was a great idea. Also a big patio area with bean bags to hang out in. There was a friendly dog that was rescued from the street. We stayed an extra day because we liked the place so much. Would have stayed longer but we were short on time. The only thing I would suggest is a like three or four fans for each dorm room instead of one. It was really hot and one fan wasn't enough. Pick a bottom bunk if you can so the fan will get to you. Top bunks were really hot. Again it was almost 100 degrees F so no matter what, it was going to be hot. Not a whole lot you can do about it. It is probably not comfortably walkable from the train station but tram 1 will get you there. Then it is like a five/ten minute walk. If you arrive at 11PM as my train did, the trams may still be running but there is no where to buy a ticket. Not sure if the tickets from other Romanian towns work but you may want to bring one so you can at least take the tram. Then play ignorant if they are incorrect. They looked like all the other towns' tickets so I assume they would work. The tram is to the right as you walk out of the station. You would stand on the side looking at the station. Otherwise it is a 20 Lei taxi ride. Don't take a taxi right in front of the station. Walk across the street to the actual taxi stand. Beware of pickpockets as a girl we met had someone hand's in her purse while talking to the taxi driver.
This hostel doesn't exist anymore, so why this website?
It is a nice, well equiped hostel. The staffs are very friendly and helpful.
A hostel in need, is a hostel indeed.
Very friendly staff which makes you feel welcomed anytime.
The rooms are clean, also the bathroom.
Nice warm showers available with hairdryer included.
Nevertheless, the coffee is on the house.
The location is great, near Downtown, Unirii Square. You also have neighbourhood shops in the near by of the location.
Free to use kitchen appliences, great garden in the back.
Free wi-fi and multiple electrical sockets available in every room.
Thank you Dana and Francois for the warm welcoming.
Best regards!
awesome place with welcoming staff and a great, hippie-bohemian-backpacker atmosphere ( especially the garden and terrace but the inside is cool, colorful and full of life too), will definately return here when I come to Timisoara! :)
I never leave any comments but my memory of hostelcostel really deserve it. After a day of travel it was like emerging in a fairyland. The place is made for you to feel comfortable and open yourself, for three night and four day i just had a taste of heaven in my mouth (and of uic maybe)
Its a nice place, but the vibe was not for me. The dorms were a little hot at night, and I didnt like that both the toilets and showers were multi-person, so there was no privacy anywhere. I also got bitten a lot by mosquitos at night.
Awesome location, awesome room, awesome bacyard area, awesome staff. Well worth the stay!
enjoyed my stay here. was quiet but staff were generally friendly and helpful. had palinka soon after arrival. 1 member of staff was a touch unprofessional on one occasion but otherwise no problems
Had a wonderful time with some wonderful people!
+ nice & clean rooms
+ beautiful garden to chill & recreate
+ friendly & helpful staff
+ near the city center & some parks
Location is a reasonable walk from the historic center. Tram stop is a short walk away, and from here you can get to the main station without change. Staff members are great! Very friendly and helpful. Will definitely stay here next time in Timisoara.
I've been in multiple hostels, but this is the best one yet. Beautiful place and garden. The staff is really relaxed and nice as well. Besides that is the hostel cheap and is the location good.
Hostel Costel has very much become a dorm. Was great in the past but with each visit it seems to leave a worse and worse impression. Woken up several times in the night due to sounds of puking, farting and yelling and had to personally tell people to keep it down.Didn't even get a key for my private room this time. This is not a place where young travellers meet anymore, but a dorm for unmanered students.
Great place! And the staff were amazing super helpful! I will sure stop there for my next time in Timisoara!
Hostel Costel is a place I'll always choose when I stay in Timisoara, they are constantly improving, anding new things to their lovely hostel. Give them an opportunity to be your hosts, you'll definitely enjoy it. :)
Very nice accommodation, super accessible as a location (close to the city center and to the E4 bus station to / from the airport) also you will find there super friendly staff. Highly recommend it. P.S Timisoara remain to be a city which is a must to see.
The best Hostel in Timisoara!
Great hostel! Felt at home immediately.
Great, friendly, clean spot - outside the city center but a very pleasant walk. Staff are awesome, and the place has a great vibe to it.
