Great atmosphere
Chill place -- very nice. Close to everything, good breakfast.
Nice hostel
Nice hostel with friendly and helpful staff and good breakfast. Good location close to the town and beach. Good wifi. Nice and clean rooms. No hot water.
Loved it
I stayed at this hostel on January 2013 and it was a big part of why I loved Montezuma. Slept in a 4 bed dorm, though it was a bit small there were bigger ones and only stayed there to sleep since you have many other spots to chill in the rest of the hostel (balcony, hammocks, common kitchen area). It's clean, with a fully equipped kitchen, nice and big breakfast, security at night, and lovely people. I kept meeting amazing travelers in this place, can't say anything but good things. The only "beware" is about the monkeys! The hostel is located on a hill and they wake you up but also they try to find food all the time, just don't pay attention to them!
Luz en el Cielo Eco-B&B/Hostel has amazing customer service. The staff bend over backwards to make sure that everyone is taken care of and is having a wonderful vacation. The staff let guests use their personal phones to arrange shuttles, reserve accommodation in other locations, and even call home to fix a banking issue!
The Location
Montezuma, Costa Rica, is located on the southern tip of the Nicoya peninsula on the Pacific side of the country. The hostel itself has a perfect location; a short, five-minute walk into town or to the beach means that you're always within walking distance to the attractions and amenities of the town without the noise and bustle of the town. Located on the edge of the jungle, the hostel is often visited by howler monkeys, bats, raccoons, tropical birds, and other rare species.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The dorms are equipped with two full-sized bathrooms. Both are modern, clean, and fully equipped for any hygienic needs. There are also two outdoor showers to wash sand off from the beach or have a quick cool off from the hot Costa Rican sun. The dorm rooms are small, clean, and only have two bunk beds in each. The staff change the bed sheets regularly even if if guests are staying longer. It can be crowded in there with backpacks on the floor, but a good night's sleep is in order with the new, high-quality mattresses and only four guests per room.
Common Spaces
Hammocks, deck chairs, and tables create a comfortable area that induces social interaction and lovely conversation with fellow world travelers. The kitchen is fully equipped with a large stove that allows multiple guests to make meals at the same time. A large, communal food container allows you to cook with many spices and sauces that most travelers don't want to buy for one meal. Free, delicious coffee all day and free breakfast keep you fueled and energized for your day of exploring. There is also free parking on site and free Wi-Fi.
Summary
The staff are very knowledgeable about the local area; they speak English, Spanish, and French. The staff are beyond friendly, always saying hello and keeping a smile on their face. This is an excellent hostel to relax and chat with travelers, learn to surf, snorkel, or explore the Cabo Blanco National Park.
Amazing Hostel had the best time! The breakfast is really nice and the staff are the heart of the place well equipped kitchen and many great sth to do! I stayed longer then i first pretended no party vibe more for chilling. Just 4min walk from the center of the village.
The best place in Costa Rica!! Worth all days we spent there. The nicest people and best atmosphere!
Harold and all the staff were so welcoming and kind. My brother and I arrived with terrible sunburn and they gave us advice and showed care and concern. The hostel is set in a tranquil location with hammocks overlooking the canopy whilst only a short (2 minute) walk from the town of Montezuma. On our last morning, our shuttle came to pick us up at 7:00 (an hour before breakfast) but they whipped us up a plate of fruit so we wouldnt leave hungry. I was very impressed and would highly recommend!
Loved my stay here. The staff was friendly, it was a 30 second walk to the town center, met some fellow travellers in this very cozy environment directly in nature.
Way too expensive for what it is. My bed had bedbugs and stained sheets. Didnt look anything like the pictures here on hostelworld. Staff were super nice and incredible but hostel was not worth the 18 for a tight shared dorm with a fan that didnt work and very loud road noise with lorries. Music downstairs was annoying and a bit too loud and one of the hobs in the kitchen just didnt really work. Bathrooms were super nice and clean. Warning however is that it is in a jungle so terrible mosquitos but I am a magnet for them so may just be me. Great breakfast too and good communal area just there were a few too many not good things for it to be 18 per night for a shared dorm.
Amazing. Herald was so wonderful and brought great energy to the hostel. This hostel was so special and made our time in Montezuma exceptional. Only downside was no A/C
Delicious breakfast and great staff who remembered our names! The rooms are very tiny and have screens for windows, but beds were comfortable. Everything is open, so any noise made on the second floor will be heard, but we still slept well. In the middle of nature, so lots of bugs and nature sounds. One of the smoothest Hostel I have been at. We had the luck to benefit from free morning meditation both mornings, very grateful for the peaceful ambiance of this Hostel.
This place is unbelievable. The breakfast was amazing, and the hosts of this hostel made me feel at home right away. You won't regret staying here and getting away from the busier, more party centric hostels.
Lovely staff and cool location. A lot of bugs at night but to be expected given the location.
Beautiful hostel in the jungle, great for solo travelers.
Everything was perfect! The staff is the best, location is great, general vibe is amazing. I highly recommend this hostel for anyone looking for good company and great atmosphere!
Loved my stay here. A bit more expensive but so worth it. Rooms are nice and clean, kitchen has everything youll need. The atmosphere is so nice, easy to talk to everyone. The howler monkeys woke me up at 6 am every morning but thats part of the experience.
The hostel was nice with friendly staff & the kitchen and bathroom were very well kept. However, we were in the 4 bedroom dorm which was tiny and there were bugs everywhere as the hostel is directly in the jungle and very much indoor-outdoor living. Because of this the general demographic it attracts felt very hippie - a woman was shocked at my suggestion of killing probably the largest mosquito I have ever seen. Definitely bring a mosquito net and lots of insect spray.
This was a different hostel. Its very small and the atmosphere was a bit weird. The front desk girl barely spoke english (i dont expect her too) so it was a bit difficult communicating. The breakfast was 10/10. I would literally pay the money to just get breakfast lol. The showers had cold water and theyre outside in the open, so at night theres lots of bugs. The rooms dont have windows only nets so its super hot.
Lovely hostel approx 5 minutes walk from the centre of Montezuma/beach. Staff were super friendly and helpful and the included breakfast was nice. Hostel and rooms were kept clean, although it is set in the jungle so some of the bugs do come out to play (particularly at night!). I would stay again.
I had an amazing time in Montezuma, mostly duo to our stay in Luz en el Cielo! The energy is peaceful which makes it the perfect place to rest. The staff is really helpful and kind.
Within 5 minute walk of beach and center of town. Still in a quiet location. Hot showers, great breakfast, friendly owner/staff, kitchen with so many stoves/pots/pans/cutting boards/dishes to cook anything you can think of. Lots of room for parking, mosquitos are kinda awful here though and the dorms often get left open unless your intentional about closing the door each time.
Loved that we were able to see so many monkeys from the hostel and it was easy to meet other travelers! The bathroom facilities are outdoors with many bugs as its the only light in the nighttime.
In the jungle, must be okay with nature (monkeys, bugs, no AC). Its honestly a treat to be so in tune with nature. The town is not touristy and tiny, so you get to know people easily in and out of the hostel. Rent an ATV and go on the snorkeling tour. Safe for solo female travelers. Receptionist takes great care of every need and tells amazing stories. Felt like a home away from home.
Lovely hostel in good location, small walk up in the jungle. Big kitchen, lovely clean bathrooms. The dorms are very basic and lots of light comes in as there are no curtains. No storage space in the rooms and there are small lockers outside of the rooms that you need to give a deposit for a key for. The night we were there hundreds of flying ants were all over the place, on our beds and belongings. Nice hostel but be aware that it is in a jungle!
