Gorge View is the closest hostel to Niagara Falls. This building is at least eighty-five years old and offers an interesting history in addition to its ease of access to Niagara Falls. This fairly new hostel offers a comfortable combination of old-fashioned charm and modern amenities. Gorge View is certainly worth staying at for several days!
Most of what you want in Niagara Falls is within one mile of Gorge View. Directly across the street is the Aquarium of Niagara, which has a pedestrian bridge headed to Gorge View Discovery Center and Trailheads. From there, all of Niagara Falls' biggest attractions are a quick walk or trolley ride away. If you would like to sightsee in surrounding areas, such as Whirlpool State Park, Devil's Hole State Park, or Lewiston, there are convenient hiking/biking paths that take you along the Niagara. Gorge View offers affordable bike rentals for these further excursions.
On-site parking is offered, and public transportation is within easy walking distance. The New York Trailways bus station and Rainbow Bridge to Canada are two very important locations for backpackers, and they are both less than a mile from Gorge View. Perhaps the best part about the Gorge View location is that it's the perfect place to view fireworks! On nights when Niagara Falls hosts a fireworks show, the rooftop is open for all guests to view the show and the lit-up city skyline.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Each spacious, six-bed dorm offers linens, lockers, and sitting areas. Male, female, and co-ed dorms are offered. Restrooms are kept remarkably clean and are located inside each dorm room. Sinks and mirrors are located in the dorm outside of the restroom as well. A private room has two double beds with a separating wall and private restroom. Dorms and private rooms are located on the first floor, while the second and third floor have apartment accommodations for those who wish to stay longer term. Each guest receives a key that gives them twenty-four/seven access to the front door, and an additional key that will let guests into their specific room.
Gorge View offers several areas where you can meet other travelers. Because of the hostel's spaciousness, both quiet travelers and loud adventurists will be able to enjoy their stay. The most popular common area is the eating area, equipped with tables, chairs, and a television. Although a full kitchen is in the plans for the hostel, the offerings of the current partial kitchen can provide you with several food preparation options.
The reception room is a great place to get information about the area. Gorge View guests can access free Wi-Fi throughout most of the first floor, and there is also a computer located in the reception room for those who did not bring their own. While the rest of the hostel is always open, this room is locked except during reception hours.
In the basement (which, as suggested by the architecture, may have once been a speakeasy), you will find a coin laundry and a pool table. The backyard is also a popular hangout place because it has a grill. The roof can even be accessed during special occasions, such as summer fireworks nights. Nearly all the guests and residents attend the events held on the roof!
Overall, Gorge View is an excellent choice for travelers who want to see the wonder of Niagara Falls. This is one of the few hostels where you can interact directly with the owner, and he can definitely provide lots of insider information and fun stories. The hostel is continually improving, so every visit will get better and better!
Gorge View is New
Gorge View is new hostel with new owner that replace redlounge. I stay there 5 days and did many things besides the falls. There were other parks along river to go to one with whirlpool other you walk down into the gorge.
Gorge View was great location for all these things and to go eat downtown, on same street are many restaurants. Aquarium was across the street. I walked to Canada too.
They have bike rentals but I was too small for their bikes it was great all the same. They have grill and we grilled one night watched fireworks from roof top amazing view.
Excellent services, would stay again!
The red lounge hostel is situated within easy walking distance of the falls and the Canadian border. Breakfast was WELL worth the $3, toast, fruit, porridge (oatmeal to you yanks!), coffee, orange juice etc. The staff were very friendly and helpful, always up for a chat. The room itself was simple, comfy bed with a box fan at one end and towels provided. There are two computers with internet and free wifi for updating the loved ones with your travels. Not the most characterful hostel I've stayed at but certainly a very good one!
Very co operative and solution oriented.
