Gorge View Reviews

Gorge View is the closest hostel to Niagara Falls. This building is at least eighty-five years old and offers an interesting history in addition to its ease of access to Niagara Falls. This fairly new hostel offers a comfortable combination of old-fashioned charm and modern amenities. Gorge View is certainly worth staying at for several days!

The Location

Most of what you want in Niagara Falls is within one mile of Gorge View. Directly across the street is the Aquarium of Niagara, which has a pedestrian bridge headed to Gorge View Discovery Center and Trailheads. From there, all of Niagara Falls' biggest attractions are a quick walk or trolley ride away. If you would like to sightsee in surrounding areas, such as Whirlpool State Park, Devil's Hole State Park, or Lewiston, there are convenient hiking/biking paths that take you along the Niagara. Gorge View offers affordable bike rentals for these further excursions.

On-site parking is offered, and public transportation is within easy walking distance. The New York Trailways bus station and Rainbow Bridge to Canada are two very important locations for backpackers, and they are both less than a mile from Gorge View. Perhaps the best part about the Gorge View location is that it's the perfect place to view fireworks! On nights when Niagara Falls hosts a fireworks show, the rooftop is open for all guests to view the show and the lit-up city skyline.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Each spacious, six-bed dorm offers linens, lockers, and sitting areas. Male, female, and co-ed dorms are offered. Restrooms are kept remarkably clean and are located inside each dorm room. Sinks and mirrors are located in the dorm outside of the restroom as well. A private room has two double beds with a separating wall and private restroom. Dorms and private rooms are located on the first floor, while the second and third floor have apartment accommodations for those who wish to stay longer term. Each guest receives a key that gives them twenty-four/seven access to the front door, and an additional key that will let guests into their specific room.

Common Spaces

Gorge View offers several areas where you can meet other travelers. Because of the hostel's spaciousness, both quiet travelers and loud adventurists will be able to enjoy their stay. The most popular common area is the eating area, equipped with tables, chairs, and a television. Although a full kitchen is in the plans for the hostel, the offerings of the current partial kitchen can provide you with several food preparation options.

The reception room is a great place to get information about the area. Gorge View guests can access free Wi-Fi throughout most of the first floor, and there is also a computer located in the reception room for those who did not bring their own. While the rest of the hostel is always open, this room is locked except during reception hours.

In the basement (which, as suggested by the architecture, may have once been a speakeasy), you will find a coin laundry and a pool table. The backyard is also a popular hangout place because it has a grill. The roof can even be accessed during special occasions, such as summer fireworks nights. Nearly all the guests and residents attend the events held on the roof!

Overall, Gorge View is an excellent choice for travelers who want to see the wonder of Niagara Falls. This is one of the few hostels where you can interact directly with the owner, and he can definitely provide lots of insider information and fun stories. The hostel is continually improving, so every visit will get better and better!

Gorge View is New

Gorge View is new hostel with new owner that replace redlounge. I stay there 5 days and did many things besides the falls. There were other parks along river to go to one with whirlpool other you walk down into the gorge.

Gorge View was great location for all these things and to go eat downtown, on same street are many restaurants. Aquarium was across the street. I walked to Canada too.

They have bike rentals but I was too small for their bikes it was great all the same. They have grill and we grilled one night watched fireworks from roof top amazing view.

Excellent services, would stay again!

The red lounge hostel is situated within easy walking distance of the falls and the Canadian border. Breakfast was WELL worth the $3, toast, fruit, porridge (oatmeal to you yanks!), coffee, orange juice etc. The staff were very friendly and helpful, always up for a chat. The room itself was simple, comfy bed with a box fan at one end and towels provided. There are two computers with internet and free wifi for updating the loved ones with your travels. Not the most characterful hostel I've stayed at but certainly a very good one!

Very co operative and solution oriented.

Gorge View Reviews from the Web

Ok place to stay when traveling overseas and out of state. Good place affordable price.

Clean room n toilet,no toilet paper though, kitchen was okay,Id definitely recommend

Great location, its a pleasant 15 min walk to the falls, you can see the fireworks every night at 10pm from a location 5 min walk from the hostel and the owner is taking care of the place himself and is super friendly and helpful. I super recommend if youre looking for somewhere cheap, safe and close to everything in the town. Definitely will stay there again when Im back in Niagara Falls.

The owner (Jeff) is the best! I love my stay here because of him! He recommended so many good spots and things to do in town. He takes great care of the hostel and I would defo recommend him and would go back. Definitely one of the best hostels Ive stayed at :)

From the very minute we arrived at this location it was all smiles and laughs. I took two of my female friends to this hostel. This was the first time my female friends ever stayed in a hostel. They absolutely loved it and we all cant wait to go back. We all decided we will stay no other place but the Gorge View in niagara falls. We absolutely fell in love with the owner Jeff what a wonderful man. I was honored to be able to get to hang with Jeff and he gave great info about the area.perfect stay

The owner Jeff is a super cool guy. Very knowledgeable on the area and made great recommendations. Amazing photographer as well

Very good location and clean with excellent kitchen facilities. Jeff the manager is most helpful but perhaps his strong political views might not be shared. The walk from the hostel, along a tree lined path, along the gorge towards the Falls is wonderful. The authorities are doing an excellent job developing the area immediately about the Falls, but the refreshments on offer are not the most healthy. The hostel kitchen is idea for making packed lunch!

The hostel was perfectly good. Comfortable, clean, close enough to the falls and a very friendly, helpful host. The facilities were great, but the lack of 24 hour reception was kinda annoying as I wanted to store my suitcase for the morning after I checked out, before I caught my bus, but it's not a big deal really.

Great location, super nice host, good value for money. Got great tips what to do (and when) in Niagara Falls and neighbor towns. Would always stay there again.

they did

not open the door and did not pick calls just rude

Walking distance from the falls and the owner knows a lot about any topic of conversation. It was a good value and an opportunity to meet people from other parts of the world

I had a very nice stay at Gorge View. I wish I had taken advantage of the Gorge trail right across the street. It was easy to get to downtown and to Rainbow Bridge for my short day trip to look at the falls from the Canadian side (bring $1 in quarters to get back). The hostel has good Wifi, a bright little kitchen, the hot water works. DiCamillo bakery is a few blocks away. Bring a towel and enjoy yourself!

I really enjoy my stay at Gorge View. The location is the biggest plus. The Niagara Falls are within walking distance. It saved me money, time and effort to go as I did not have to take buses. Also, it is only 20 minute walk to the bus station. Very convenient.

I was amazed by the history of the building, and how neat and clean everything is. The kitchen is fantastic (one small detail I think the owner can do: you can place some pairs of chopsticks. Asian travelers will love that!). Thank you.

Excellent hostel! I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. Nice location, friendly stuff and adequate facilities. Everything was great.

Really cute Hostel near Niagara Gorge (it is literally across the road). The staff is extremely friendly and there is a big and clean kitchen. Bathrooms are great and the rooms offer enough space. All in all one of the nicest hostels I have been to so far - highly recommended :)

Owner is friendly and helpful.

Clean and convenient.

Close to gorge rim trail, can walk along the river to American falls.

Aquarium is just the opposite of the hostel.

Good kitchen and co-living space.

Amazing host. Thanks for all recommendations and the place is very nice. Hope to see you soon again

I was not allowed to stay there because they considered me to be a local I asked How do you determine a local I was told they go by area code. I was not informed of this until after I made reservations and drove sixty miles to the location a big inconvenience

This location definitely is perfect to visit Niagara Falls, but the service wasnt the best, the guy at front desk is not friendly, we feel like in jail, I have visited many hostels around the world and is really important the attitude.

Gorge View is the closest Hostel to the Niagara Falls. We enjoy a privileged location overlooking the Niagara Gorge right across the street from the Niagara Falls State Park allowing. From here you can to walk to the Aquarium, Gorge Discovery Center, Made of the Mist, Cave of the Winds and Waterfalls in minutes. It’s a great place to start hiking or biking the many trails along the Niagara Gorge and we’re one block from the dining and entertainment district. Enjoy food, beverages and meet new people in and around Gorge View.

Niagara Falls and the region around it is an affordable tourist destination in a relaxed atmosphere next to a world wonder. There is plenty to do and see within walking distance of Gorge View and no visit would be complete without exploring the larger Niagara Region. Two cities in one! Niagara Falls, NY allows you to get close and personal to the Natural Wonder that is Niagara Falls, but from our location you can walk to Niagara Falls, Ontario and visit a second city in another country and get an entirely different view of the water falls. We recommend 3 days to take in all the sites and wonders the area has to offer at a relaxed pace that lets you meet and enjoy new people in the restaurants, bars and clubs just one block from us. After taking in all the sites within walking distance rent a bike and launch out by adventures to two other state parks or even the shore of Lake Ontario, experience jet boating on the Niagara Rapids, see Ft. Niagara.

Gorge View offers everything you expect from a great hostel; in suite room baths, free high speed wifi, on site laundry machines, entertainment, information and trip planning, irons, blow dryers all in a safe relaxed environment.
