Old Fire Station Backpackers Fremantle Reviews

Everyone is friendly, there is always something going on, and nothing seems to be too much trouble at Old Fire Station Backpackers Fremantle. The female-only kitchen and TV room makes it feel like it is your own place, and provides plenty of room to chill out and do girl stuff.

The Location

The location is great -- it is right next to the train station and ferry to Rottnest Island. It is also close to the Little Creatures Brewery. It is a short walk to Coles and Woolworths. The local shops and town are really friendly and you can often find cheap deals in pubs and cafes for food and drinks. Fremantle is a beautiful place and there seems to be lots to do in the local area, be it going to a local beach, brewery tour, or hopping over to Rottnest Island.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms are huge and very spacious -- they are kept clean, and on a weekly basis everything has to be picked up from the floors to allow for mopping. Everything left on the floor or in the storage units are thrown in the bin, so be careful to put everything on your bed. The bathrooms are good, and they are kept clean and tidy. The water is not very powerful in the showers, but it is nice and warm.

Common Spaces

The common spaces are well laid out. There is a nice outdoor space, which includes a BBQ. It is a perfect place for chilling out, and even includes a jukebox which can be used for free. Each TV has its own Netflix access, allowing guests to watch movies anytime that they want. The kitchen and common areas are always kept very clean and tidy. You cannot bring your own alcohol, but they do sell alcohol in reception, which is very reasonably priced, so it is not too much of an issue. Guests and staff organize different events in the hostel. This can include a movie night, football, or a joint dinner together, which gives the hostel a very homey vibe and allows you to get to know people easily.

Old Fire Station Backpackers Fremantle is great. It is ideally located, the staff are friendly, and the space is clean. We would certainly recommend staying here.

Best hostel in oz

Stayed here from sept 09-jan 10. Without doubt my favourite hostel i stayed in during my whole year in oz. Warm, friendly atmosphere, great parties, laid back, staff are amazing. Loved it and miss it lots.

Rancid mess of a hostel

I have stayed in hostels all over the world, but dirtwise the Firestation takes the cake. Imagine an ill-aired locker room, where the patrons are allowed to live indefinitely (mix in alcohol and other bodily fluids), and don't clean it more than once a week. I would rather spend the rest of my life eating off the floor of a public bathroom than stay in this hostel ever again.

The worst place ever

The worst place I've ever stayed. Loud music all night and people screaming and behaving like small children. When you ask them in the middle of the night to be a bit more quiet, they tell you to f*** off, and sleep somewhere else. Small, hot rooms, and dirty.

A great hostel and atmosphere made fantastic by the people. I'd be tempted to go on holiday to Freo just to stay there! A big thanks to Alex (staff/co-owner) who let in after hours when they were fully booked. The couch was comfy as! Certainly the most friendly hostel I've stayed in.

Did you know that they have a wall covered with chins? well, yes, they most certainly do.

I stayed in this hostel for six weeks and really liked it. There is a great atmosphere in the hostel with lots of friendly people. I stayed in the fifteen-bed Pleasuredome dorm -- might sound a nightmare but so many of the guests there were such a good laugh! It might not be the cleanest hostel ever but has real character and friendly staff. The courtyard is very social and has a free jukebox with over ten thousand songs. I would recommend this hostel and would definitely recommend staying in Fremantle over staying in Perth city centre.
