Tims Place Reviews

Great place

It is a great place. It has everything you need, it is located in a beautiful corner of the land down under and the staff are very kind. Also there is a brown dog that is a great dog. I had a great time. Highly recommend it.

Tims Place is a clean, quiet, family-run hostel located on the main road through the tiny countryside town of Halls Gap. The town is nestled right in the heart of the Grampians National Park and the location of this hostel is stunning.

The Location

This eco-friendly hostel is located on Grampians Road, which runs through straight the Australian town of Halls Gap. The town itself is found in a valley right in the centre of the Grampians National Park and is surrounded by spectacular scenery. The hostel is only a short walk from the general store and petrol station, which are found in the town centre along with a handful of restaurants and pubs.

The hostel is in such a position that all the amazing sights and trails of the Grampians National park are accessible by car or on foot. The main attractions here include MacKenzie and Silverband Falls, and Reed Lookout and The Balconies as well as the awe-inspiring Boroka Lookout. Furthermore the hostel is surrounded by lush greenery and a large grassy area where wildlife -- including kangaroos and galahs -- regularly come to feed. The best way to reach this hostel is by car coming from Melbourne. Follow the signs to the Grampians National Park and then to Halls Gap. Once you get into Halls Gap, continue through the town centre, passing a few shops on your right; Tims Place is located on the left, just next to a large, grassy area. If you're arriving from Adelaide, Tims Place is located on the right-hand side -- if you reach the town centre with the shops on the left, you have gone too far.

Rooms and Bathrooms

This hostel contains a variety of rooms, including singles, doubles, triples, and family or shared dorm rooms. This hostel also offers a studio apartment that is located in a separate building from the hostel. This hostel is fairly small and includes two buildings, the hostel and the studio apartment, both of which are in excellent condition from the outside. The building is clean and tidy inside, with the rooms cleaned before and after your stay.

During our stay, we chose the studio apartment, as all the other rooms were full. The hostel owner (Tim) was kind enough to give a discount, as our party only contained two people; this was very generous of him. The studio apartment is a self-contained option with the sleeping quarters, small kitchen, and bathroom all in a separate building from the hostel. The studio apartment has a large double bed, a bunk bed, and also contains a TV with two chairs. The double bed is very comfortable, with enough linen, blankets, and pillows to keep you warm during the winter. The television and seating area give the apartment a very homey feel. The whole apartment could be locked using the key provided or locked from the inside.

The bathroom in this apartment is a private, en suite bathroom that contains a toilet, wash basin with a mirror above, and a shower cubicle. The bathroom is well lit and the shower is a good quality, power shower allowing the temperature to be adjusted easily. The bathroom is neatly kept and has a window, which can be opened to prevent it from steaming up. The studio apartment also has its own small kitchen with a fridge, sink, microwave, kettle, and some cupboard space. The hostel provides free tea and coffee as well as free milk; the only downside is that the apartment does not contain its own cooker. It does have a small, portable plug-in oven and stove top; the stove is fine but the oven is not very effective at all. Finally, the apartment also contains a table and chairs in a separate room, which are great for eating meals.

Common Spaces

This hostel has several common areas, including the kitchen, dining area, and TV and sofa space; there's also seating outside. The kitchen contains all the amenities you need, including a fridge/freezer, cooker, microwave, kettle, and toaster. It is of a good size, so it doesnt feel too cramped; it's clean and tidy. The hostel also has a TV room with a large, flat-screen TV fixed to the wall and also it offers a selection of books to read. Finally, there is plenty of seating outside with various table and chairs scattered around. The atmosphere of this hostel is very relaxed, and as this is a very small hostel, it is pretty quiet too. Finally the hostel offers free Wi-Fi and also free bike rental to explore the surrounding areas with.

Overall, this is a superb hostel in a fantastic location with a very laid-back atmosphere and is a safe, clean, and tidy hostel. The owner Tim works at the hostel with his wife and they both take extra care to ensure your stay is great.

Clean, friendly, cozy

We'd heard good things about Tim's Place and it didn't disappoint. The kitchen and bathroom was clean and tidy, and the common dining room/lounge and kitchen was a great place to catch up with other travelers. Our room was a four-share in a cabin, which included a small bar fridge, dining table, and chairs in a vestibule and even a comfortable reading chair and lamp! If you're keen to do some hard core partying, this is probably not the place, but If you want a place you can chill out and feel like you're up at the cottage, this is it. The best value for money I have come across so far.

It's a hostel. I felt like home. You can watch movies and listen music or chat with friends in the lovely living room.

Very nice place. Clean dorms, clean bathrooms, cheap internet, well-equipped and rather big kitchen, very spacious setting with lots of places to sit, free mountain bikes, free golf clubs, and an amazingly friendly staff. They really want to help you, planning your way around Hall's Gap and further. Also, a nice location, near walks and in the centre of the Grampians. $23 for a dorm bed (no discounts) which is great value for money.

A home from home. Cosy, clean and very welcoming. Tim has an amazing knack for remembering very guest's name and introducing everyone to each other. Wish it wasn't only a one night stop over as I would have liked to stayed longer -- just chilling.

Was the best and frendliest hostel, which we visited during our trip through Australia.

Tim is the real French Aussie and Betty is a manager with a big heart (for children and their parents and of course all other guests).

Tims Place is a very nice place to stay. Betty, the charming lady working there (owning the place???), was quite friendly and made me feel like I am home. The bathrooms and the kitchen were very clean, so were the rooms. They have a garden where you can sit and chill out while enjoying the great view of the mountains. If you go to Grampians, stay there.
