A&O Dortmund Hauptbahnhof is a huge hostel that is able to offer low-cost beds for travelers. Friendly staff check guests in and out, whilst also serving drinks and snacks at the reception/bar.
The Location
The hostel is located within a five-minute walk of the Brugmannplatz Station and ten minutes from the Dortmund ZOB Bus and Coach Station. It’s also really close to the German Football Museum, an Art Museum, and the Konzerthaus Concert Hall. There is a launderette one minute walk away, a big bonus for travelers needing to wash their clothes.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The bedroom has only two bunk beds, making it a calmer space compared to busier rooms. It has a small, private bathroom with a shower; it's clean and bright room with the only grievance being a wet floor caused by the room's other guests. The room has a table and chair by the window, and two plug sockets (one for each bunk bed). It has four large lockers (one for each roommate) with a latch on which you can use a small padlock.
Outside, the bedrooms are hallways that are quite spooky due to the subdued lighting; it’s reminiscent of the hotel in "The Shining."
Common Spaces
The main common space is a huge area connected to the reception desk. It has a pool table and lots of seating, including a large six-seater table with eight plug sockets attached to it. There are two vending machines available if guests fancy a snack that’s not available at the bar. The bar itself has many drinks and there are a few widescreen TVs playing sport channels. Suitable music plays at a respectable level.
There is a small outside area with two sets of tables under canopies and many chairs. There are also some deckchairs too, ideal for a lazy day in the sun.
There is a dining area downstairs where guests can feast on breakfast if they choose to pay the fee. There are many options at breakfast, including bread, butter, jam, ham, pork, salad, cereal, muesli, fruit, and tea and coffee.
Summary
This is a perfectly fine hostel with a large reception area; it's ideal for socialising with friends. It offers more than enough for a pleasant stay in a good location at a reasonable price.

Location
• Walking direction
• Leave the main station through the main exit. Go left and follow the road for about 300 m. The hotel is on the opposite side.
• By train
• Leave the main station through the main exit. Go left and follow the road for about 300 m. The hotel is on the opposite side.
• By plane
• Take the Airport Express. The Airport Express is a bus which will drive you within 20 minutes directly to the main train station.
• By car
• From East: Coming from the A44 motorway you need to change at junction Dortmund/Unna to B1. Go straight on for about 9 km. Turn right to the street Vosskuhle, later Im Defdahl and Von-der-Goltz-Strasse. After 1,5 km change left to Kaiserstrasse, later Hamburger Strasse. After 1 km turn right to Schwanenwall and go straight on for about 800 m. You will see the hotel on the left side.
• From North: Leave the motorway A2 at junction Dortmund-Nordost, direction to Schwerte and take the B236. Go straight on for about 6 km and exit the B234 to direction Dortmund Brackel and take the driveway. Go straight on for about 300 m and turn right to Brackelerstrasse. Then you have to go straight on for approximately 3 km. Turn right from the Brackelerstrasse to Borsigplatz. At the roundabout you take the fifth exit to Oesterholzstrasse, later Weissenburger Strasse. Follow the road and after 1,6 km you turn right to Schwanenwall. The A&O Dortmund is located after about 500 m on the left.
• From South: Leave motorway A45 at Dortmund-Sued, direction Dortmund and go to the B54. Go straight on to Ruhrwaldstrasse. Drive about 4 km on this street, later Ruhrallee. And then after 4 km on the Ruhrallee you have to turn right to Ostwall. Follow the road for approximately 1,5 km, until you see the hotel on the left side.
• From West: Change at motorway junction Dortmund-West from the A40 to the B1, direction to Dortmund. Follow the street for approximately 6 km and change to B54. After 1 km turn left to Suedwall. Then follow this street for approximately 1,8 km, until you see the A&O Dortmund on the right side.
