Hostel Malti is the closest thing to "home" that one can find in Malta. With consistently friendly staff, a welcoming environment, a great location, and a beautiful rooftop, Hostel Malti has everything that a backpacker is looking for in a temporary abode. The Location Although difficult to find amongst the maze of buildings on Malta's main island, Hostel Malti maintains a great location in one of the best spots in Malta -- St. Julian's. The hostel is up on a little hill between St. Julian's Bay and Balluta Bay. Just get off any bus at St. Julian's Bay and ask someone to point you towards Birkirkara Hill/Road. If you have any problems finding the place, don't hesitate to call the hostel's contact number and someone will be sure to help you. Hostel Malti is located in one of the best towns in Malta. St. Julian's is a mere ten-minute walk from the islands best nightlife center -- Paceville. From St. Julian's Bay, one can also catch a bus to anywhere on the island for a reasonable fare. But don't forget that there's also much to see and do within walking distance of the hostel. Rooms and Bathrooms The rooms in this hostel have an open atmosphere -- this may worry some travelers, especially since none of the three dorm rooms have locking doors. But there's no need to worry, every bed is provided with a large bin/drawer underneath the bed that can be locked. Please note that locks are available to rent or purchase. In each dorm room you will find three bunk beds, two beds per bunk, thus six beds per room. We found the beds and pillows to be quite comfortable ... so that's a plus! Hostel Malti also has three bathrooms -- one between the living room and kitchen, another on the second floor between two dorms, and another bathroom on the third floor. The first bathroom is actually a WC, consisting of a toilet and sink. The second bathroom is quite large, consisting of a toilet, sink, and two enclosed showers. The third bathroom consists of a sink and a larger enclosed shower. The bathrooms with showers have hooks and stands for your clothes. Also, the hostel collects unwanted toiletries that backpackers leave behind -- feel free to look through the basket and take what you need. Common Spaces The common spaces consist of a large kitchen, a dining area, a large TV room/living room, and a friendly rooftop. These common spaces are always clean and well-maintained by the hostel staff. Hostel Malti is the place to go if you're trying to meet fellow backpackers, as the hostel's social atmosphere lends itself to a good time. You may find many newly made friends going out every night, but rest assured that the hostel maintains a respectful quietness for those who are trying to sleep. A grill and table are available for use on the rooftop, as well as several lounging sofas. The TV room/living room has a number of international satellite channels as well as a large selection of DVDs. The kitchen is well equipped and also has a "Free Food" cabinet with leftover food that is up for grabs. Summary Hostel Malti is arguably Malta's best all-around hostel. Not only is the atmosphere phenomenal and the location convenient, but the hostel owner is one of the kindest men you will ever meet. He ensures that his staff are always youthful and friendly. You wont go wrong with a stay at Hostel Malti.
