So/so
Kitchen is nice. Breakfast is only toast, butter, and jam, so one of the worst you'll find for an inclusive breakfast. They do make two loaves of soda bread but unless you're one of the first ones down in the morning you won't get any. Biggest problems with the hostel is common area/kitchen close at 23:00 so after then you either go to your room or are on the street, no other place to hang out. Bathrooms are fairly nice but showers are pretty bad. Push timer for the shower and they are scolding hot, no temperature control. Beds are nice enough, though pillows are pretty terrible. Hostel is pretty expensive for what you get.
Kitchen and check-in closed after 11 pm
The hostel is in a central position and with affordable prices. The living room/kitchen was full equipped (oven, fridge, stove) ... but unfortunately it's closed from 11 pm - 8 am. The same for the check-in. The staff was fairly friendly.
Disgusting and unsafe
This hostel was the most expensive we stayed at across the country and the absolute worst! We stayed in a three bedroom which was very small that we couldn't even fit our belongings in if we wanted to close the door. While this was quickly forgotten, the filth, the lack of security (some drunk followed us back to our room and we had to run the other way), the outdoor shower with NO hot water, and the blood stained sheets were all inexcusable. I would never stay here again and urge travelers to think twice before booking here.
Unfriendly
Two of the staff were very friendly, but the man who seemed to be in charge was incredibly rude. He lectured us before checking in about making noise etc and was very patronising. He presumed we were going to be rowdy as we were a group of students, and made snide and unnecessary remarks. We were made to pay a 350 euro security deposit, which was really too much. Would not stay there again.
A very nice and clean hostel. The staff was very helpful. Nice furnishings and details. The kitchen was well kept and clean. Although it would need some more touch-ups to catch up with the nice style of the hostel. Overall, one of the best I have seen in Ireland.
The Old Mill Holiday Hostel is located on one of the main streets in the pretty town of Westport. It is in a wonderful old mill building. We were in the large female dorm on the top floor and the room has cheerful colours and walls made from lovely old stone blocks.
The hostel has a friendly large kitchen/dining room/common room where people chat while cooking or relaxing. It's easy to strike up a conversation. The staff is permanent and from the area so they can give you good tips such as the best way to get to the nearby Crough Patrick mountain. They recommend going to a close by junction and sticking out your thumb! We took the advice and got picked up by friendly locals.
The Old Mill Hostel is clean and friendly and fairly cheap. There's free breakfast on the weekdays, but not on the weekends. It's close to the shops, pubs, bus stop, and directly behind the tourist office, making it even better located (and easier to ask directions), if you need tourist info. The kitchen is well equipped with two stoves, refrigerators, and sinks. Showers are warm and there is no curfew. The building gives the hostel good character, as well. Overall, the Old Mill Hostel is good choice for a stay in Westport.
The best. I enjoyed my time there. The rooms are enormous, 18 beds or so, a good way to get to know new people. Very centric and next to the cinema! Quiet and clean. If you go in summer you can have your meals outside; they have a table there. Very good hostel.
Great hostel. It's very well located, centric, and it feels cozy and really nice. It's clean, has a good atmosphere and a huge kitchen. There's no curfew. You get a security number to open the main door and you can get back whenever you want. If you are travelling to Wesport, you MUST stay here. Highly recommended.
