The Hostelz.com Review

The Plug-Inn Hostel is a cheerful, friendly hostel in a six-story building up in the Montmartre neighborhood in Paris. It has an elevator, so it saves you from hiking up and down many flights of stairs.

The Location

The hostel is in a very accessible area of Montmartre; the directions provided by the hostel are easy to follow, and there are a few ways to get to the hostel depending if you arrive via train, bus, or plane. There are bus stops close by as well as two different metro lines. It's very easy to take the metro, then walk to the hostel. The famous Sacre Coeur is just up the hill -- you can walk up if you are in shape, or there is a funicular that takes people up as well. Montmartre is also home to Moulin Rouge, and there are many performing shows to choose from. There are some fantastic restaurants and bakeries all around the area. There are also a good deal of cheap souvenir shops.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The hostel has private rooms and a variety of dorm rooms. There are mixed and female dorm rooms, both with four or six beds. All dorm rooms and private rooms have private bathrooms with showers. The dorm rooms have cage-style lockers under the beds, but locks are not provided. There are very bright reading lights above the beds as well as power plugs. Warm blankets and towels are provided. There are also heaters in the rooms for cold winter nights.

While bathrooms are large, they can get busy, and with the shower and toilet in the same room, you may have to wait your turn a while in the morning. The shower is in a bathtub, so if no one is around, a person could take a long bath. The rooms and bathrooms are cleaned daily and management asks people to vacate rooms for cleaning hours.

Common Spaces

The hostel has an inner courtyard off the reception with tables and chairs and additional lockers. There are more chairs and coffee tables by the reception area with a few books and magazines to peruse. The kitchen is in the basement and is on the small side. Free breakfast is served in the dining room and consists of baguette, croissant, cereal, butter, jam, juice, tea, and coffee. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hostel and is strong on every floor.

Summary

The hostel is large but retains a friendly vibe, and it's easy to meet people eating breakfast or in the patio.

Clean, Great Staff, Close to Metro
Pros -- Clean, near metro station and markets, very friendly staff, free breakfast (croissant and bread). Cons -- Small rooms, not enough outlets (bring adapter for more plugs), very small elevator.

More like a hotel than hostel
This was the first hostel I ever stayed in and the experience was more like staying in a hotel room with other people. Nothing you would expect a hostel to be like because it was so clean, friendly and up to date. The staff were also fantastic and friendly, and would speak to you and have a laugh. Very homey here, 100% recommend staying here and would probably stay again when I go back to Paris.

Very good place to stay for a few days.
Close to metro. Laundry around corner. Hostel on a side street but very easy to find. Room is clean and lots of hot water for shower. Wifi strong throughout. Free breakfast.

Great deal
This was my first time traveling aboard and alone. I was worried staying in a hostel by myself but I had a great experience I felt safe and the staff was helpful with question I had regarding getting around Paris. The room was kinda of small but that was fine and the room was clean ... no complaints. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend to friends. Great location with plenty to do around the hostel. Close to train also.

Clean, centrally located, very helpful staff
This was my first experience in a hostel, and I'm quite impressed. The staff was really nice, the neighborhood has a fun vibe, & was super easy to get too. If you don't mind sleeping in cramped quarters for a few nights, & your intent is too see Paris without breaking the bank, then Plug-inn is perfect!

Had a great time, but Don't trust reviews
If you are going to book your stay based just on reviews, don't. This was a great hostel, but it wasn't all the site talked it up to be. My overview (but do your own research before you book) -- Great location, good train access, free wifi, stylish, friendly and English speaking staff. Small rooms, tiny overcrowded breakfast area, squeaky bunk beds, my room had no soap, general paint chipping hasty made feel.

Good value for Paris
Good location -- nice little area. Private room was good. Walls were a bit thin. But for Paris, pretty decent value.

Good value for money in an awesome area.
It was clean, accommodating and good value for money, especially considering that breakfast is part of the equation and if you book your own room. Best of all it is in a really nice part of Montmartre.
