Hostel Casa Verde Santa Ana

The Review

As it's one of the best, cleanest, and well-organised hostels in El Salvador if not the whole of Central America, the owners of Casa Verde have clearly done their homework. With a well-thought-out layout and attention to detail, this hostel wouldn't look out of place in a major European capital.

The Location

Only four blocks from the central square, Casa Verde is a ten-minute stroll from the main sights. A couple of blocks the other way is one of the main arteries of the city, meaning that hopping back on the bus when you are ready to move on is a simple task. Although eating options in Santa Ana are generally limited, the notice board provides a list of good options only a couple of minutes walk away and the manager Carlos is more than happy to talk you through his recommendations.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The dorm rooms, as with the rest of the hostel, are completely spotless and it is evident that the owner Carlos takes great pride in this fact. The normal clutter of bags experienced in a dorm is avoided -- each bed is assigned its own stand, which keeps everything organised and optimises the space in the rooms. The dorm rooms have six single beds (as opposed to bunk beds). Each bed is assigned a locker, and has two power sockets along with a private fan mounted on the ceiling.

There are two bathrooms in the shared dorm which again have been scrubbed to within an inch of their lives. The showers provide hot water twenty-four hours a day at a good pressure.

Common Spaces

From the brand-new roof terrace with amazing views of the mountains to the small pool at the back of the hostel, there are more than enough places to chill out in the hostel and get chatting to your fellow travelers. On entering the hostel you are faced with a dining table, around which people congregate in the evenings to share a beer and relax in the quiet surroundings. There is also another open space with a table and two good quality hammocks. The two communal kitchens are again spotless and well stocked with all the pots and pans you would ever need. Free, fresh coffee and water is available all day for free, and beers are available for purchase.

Casa Verde is probably the best-known hostel in Santa Ana, and rightfully so. Exceptionally clean, with excellent facilities and friendly staff, this place is highly recommended.

The best.
Simply the best hostal we have stayed in, ever. Carlos and his staff are amazing, friendly, helpful, and professional. The accommodation is beautiful. Rooftop terrace, immaculate pool, fantastic kitchens, movie room with awesome audio and all the latest movies. Clean to the point of obsession. Incredibly well thought-through amenities. The best.
