Orange Village Hostel Reviews

Our stay at Orange Village Hostel was a great experience.

The Location

The location of this hostel is within short walking distance of Union Square and public transit (with a stop only feet away from the hostel entrance), which will take you all over the city. There is a convenience store next door if you need a quick snack. Many restaurants and shopping spots are nearby. And of course, the feel and energy of the great city of San Francisco is all around.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The room looks exactly like the pictures and each bed has neat features. In the four-bed dorm with a private bath in the room for the guests sharing the room, there are built-in privacy boards on each bed that block your face from view as you rest/sleep, as well as mini reading lamps, a shelf, and electric outlet for each bed. The individual lockers are a bit narrow, but there is plenty of room to store belongings in other places in the room. They also can be locked. (Locks must be purchased separately and they are available at the convenience store, next door.)

The only drawback in the room is not having access to climate control/thermostat. It gets pretty cold at night in San Francisco, as buildings are not insulated. Tourists may not know this. Either a way to adjust the heat or an extra blanket upon request would be ideal. This, however, still does not detract from the overall experience.

The bathroom is adequate and is cleaned/stocked each day with toilet paper.

Common Spaces

The kitchen and lounge are great, with plenty of room to move around, cook, and enjoy dining and conversation with new friends. There is space to store your food in the refrigerator. Remember to bring your own condiments (if you like things like ketchup, mustard, and such). Pots, pans, and cooking and eating utensils are available for use. They offer a free breakfast, which is a nice surprise. It consists of cereal and milk, toast/bagels, waffles, coffee, citrus drink, yogurt and fruit (when available), and free pizza on Thursday night. It's pretty awesome. The laundry area stores an iron and board for use with multiple coin-operated washers and dryers. Detergent is free to use for guests.

Summary

This hotel is given five stars for not only providing a safe, inexpensive place to stay, but also because of their good-natured, friendly service. Every person at the front desk is helpful and accommodating. That, above everything else, is what makes this hostel stand out, far above the rest. Thank you, Orange Village!
