Pariwana Hostel Cusco ticks all the boxes of a great hostel -- it's got a central location, great bar with themed nights, daily social activities, generous buffet breakfast, and onsite travel agency. Plus, it’s all kept clean and nicely decorated throughout! It’s easy to see why it has won several awards from hostel-booking websites.
The Location
Located in the historic district, Pariwana Hostel Cusco is perfectly located for sightseeing. It is one street away from Plaza San Francisco and a five-minute walk from the main square/Plaza de Armas. There are numerous restaurants, shops, and travel agencies nearby, as well as a large market. The street feels safe and there are other hostels located nearby. The hostel is not too far in a taxi from the airport or bus station; just ask for Plaza San Francisco if they don’t know the hostel.
Rooms and Bathrooms
A range of dorms and private rooms are spread over two floors, most of which face into the central courtyard of the converted Colonial house. All dorms have comfy bunk beds with clean warm sheets and two pillows. The dorms aren’t too cramped and have large lockers with plug sockets inside. Dorms are kept locked and guests each receive a key.
A number of toilets and hot showers are spread throughout the hostel. These are generally clean and kept well stocked with toilet paper and soap. The downstairs bathrooms get used a lot more, so they sometimes get a bit dirty.
Since all rooms face onto the central courtyard, there can be noise at night. We were never bothered by this, since outdoor music never went on past 11 p.m. (indoor bar goes on later), but the hostel provides earplugs for light sleepers.
Common Spaces
The hostel is centred around a large outdoor courtyard, which hosts free daily activities such as yoga, cooking and sports competitions, and beer pong. At night it is sometimes used as a bar area, whilst in the day there are benches and bean bags providing a great space to meet other travelers and enjoy the sun.
Upstairs is a large bar area which serves drinks and food. A generous buffet breakfast, served from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m., is included in the room price. For guests leaving early on a tour, the hostel can provide a breakfast to go at no extra charge.
Other common areas include a well organised communal kitchen, a video room and communal computers. Wi-Fi is available throughout rooms and common areas. Free coffee and tea are also available throughout the day.
Summary
Pariwana Hostel Cusco is a centrally located party hostel with a great atmosphere and daily social events. It may be slightly more expensive than some nearby hostels, but with excellent facilities, free daily activities, and a generous breakfast, it offers a lot more than your average hostel!
