An alternative to staying in the heart of the city is the more upmarket suburb of Green Point where there a number of hostels to choose from, including A Sunflower Stop Backpackers Hostel - Cape Town. The hostel sits right on Main Road, which runs from the city center out to Hout Bay via Camps Bay and Sea Point.
The seafront is only a ten-minute walk away and the street has many restaurants, shops, a supermarket, and bank ATMs within a five-minute walk.
Rooms and Bathrooms
This neat little place has a smattering of double, twin, and dorm rooms; most of them share ablutions, although there are a few en suite rooms. There are two dorms -- one of six beds and one of eight beds. The wooden bunks are sturdy and the rooms spotless. The mattresses are good, the linen clean and crisp, and the duvets warm. An extra blanket is provided for the Cape Town winters and there's a ceiling fan for the summers. Lockers are provided, for which you need your own padlock, and there is a light for each bed. There are many showers and toilets dotted around the house, all clean, and the hot water is available twenty-four hours a day. The showers are spacious and there are plenty of hooks for clothes.
As you enter the property from the street through the security door, you'll find the small plunge pool in the front yard, and the tiny bar on your way to the reception desk in the main house. Upstairs, there is a small lounge with comfortable sofas and a flat-screen TV with hundreds of channels. There is free, very fast Wi-Fi that's available throughout the house, including the dorms and the rooms at the back of the house. The guests' kitchen is clean and well looked after. Guests will find a toaster, kettle, sandwich toaster, microwave, cooker, and a cabinet fridge. There is a sitting area by the kitchen with power points for a laptop breakfast. Free tea is available here all day. No meals are available, but there are many eateries and food shops within a five-minute walk.
This is billed on the hostel website as a luxury backpackers, and it is a very nice place to stay. There are boutique hostels in Green Point at a much higher price that might dispute this opinion, but it is very good value for money. It has a coziness and warmth, and it is one of the better budget hostels in Cape Town. Day trips and tours further afield can be arranged here, and it is on the backpackers' Baz Bus route. All in all, this is a very good choice.

I booked into this hostel for three days and stayed for a week! An amazing oasis in the city, this place is a gold mine. The staff are friendly and helpful and their knowledge on the tours was so helpful and made life easy! The place is clean and homely and I miss it already! I will be going back there. Well done to the greatest place in Cape Town!
The place is excellent. The staff were really friendly and were more than happy to help. The place was clean with a big kitchen for preparing food. Also spent many a late night at the bar. It is very nice.
Nice place! Would book a room again!
The Sunflower Stop is the best of all the backpackers' hostels in Cape Town. I've been here more than four times and it was always the best stop. It is much fun, with nice people, safe, and very friendly and helpful staff. I am very pleased with this place. I will be there again in February and am looking forward to it.

We had a very pleasant stay at Sunflower at the end of our trip in South Africa. Very friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommended! I would not hesitate to stay there again.

This is the nicest hostel in Cape Town. Hostels aren't that nice in general, but this one is an exception. The staff are really great. Shaba, the bartender, is really funny.
This place has a very friendly staff, and basic but clean rooms. It's very welcoming. I would stay here again if I'm in Cape Town.
I stayed at this hostel in 1997. I'm looking it up to tell a friend that they must stay here. It looks like it's still enjoyed to this day by the many travelers that are lucky enough to enter its doors.
