Barefoot Hostel in Ottawa is a quiet hostel situated in a central part of Ottawa, perfectly suitable for either shorter or longer stays in the city. Its one peculiarity is that it is a hostel for women only, but other than that it's a typical good hostel, well located and well maintained.
The Location
The hostel is located close to the downtown area, within walking distance from Parliament Hill, Rideau Canal, and shopping centre, as well as the University of Ottawa. There are grocery stores nearby, as well as restaurants, bars, and coffee shops.
The hostel is a short walk away from an airport bus stop. There are buses from the central bus terminal or the train station, which are both about half an hour away on foot. There is also parking available on the streets around the property.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Our only minor annoyance is that the dorm rooms are a little cramped. Once everyone is in the room, it becomes difficult to move around, especially if there are several guests getting ready in the morning, or packing. It can also get a little hot at night due to the close proximity of the beds and small quarters. There are lockers available, and each bed has a little shelf, as well as an outlet.
The bathrooms are modern and spacious and are kept clean. There are enough shelves for toiletries, as well as enough room away from the shower to keep your towel and clothes dry.
Common Spaces
There is a large living room with a TV and a couch and a large table and chairs. The feel of the living room is warm and cozy, and the whole ground floor has an intimate atmosphere, like that of a house, rather than a hostel. The same applies to the kitchen, which is on the small side, but perfectly functional and well equipped.
While we visited, the hostel was rather quiet, however, this might have been due to the time of year. It would be very easy to meet people, as it is a small hostel, and people tend to congregate in the common areas downstairs. The Wi-Fi is not available in the rooms, and that might also have something to do with that.
Summary
Overall, we love the friendly atmosphere of this hostel. Unless you plan to spend a lot of time in your room, this is a perfect place to relax, meet new people, or just use as a place to sleep while you explore the nearby attractions.

There is no better location!
The Barefoot Hostel is a female-only hostel situated in the heart of the city centre. University Of Ottawa, The Shaw Centre, Rideau Canal and the Byward Market are just 5 minuted walk away.
Our hostel is a popular landing spot amongst solo travelers, young business professionals, undergrads, masters and PhD students, US Visa applicants and different groups of up to 16 people. Larger groups can rent the whole house to enjoy complete privacy.
The Barefoot Hostel offers 16 dorm beds (across four rooms), free internet access, and a great backyard patio in the summertime.
This hostel has a colorful stylish interior, a beautiful spacious common room with a 50'HD flat panel TV, two computers for the guests' use, a big fridge, microwave, coffee maker and tea kettle. Rooms consist of four-beds female dormitories with bunk beds and there are two large shared bathrooms. You can enjoy our backyard garden/patio with a barbeque in the summer.
Accommodation includes daily housekeeping service, linens and towels, shampoo and bath gel, coffee, tea and hot chocolate.
**A 13% tax and 4% MAT is not included and is due upon check in. Check-in: 3pm to 11pm. Must check in before 11pm; please have a picture ID and credit card. Check-out is 11am. Our Hostel is non-smoking. Please take your shoes off when you enter. You're welcome to bring your own slippers
