Desert Sky Backpackers Lodge is a hostel in Swakopmund, Namibia.
Desert Sky Backpackers Lodge is located at the edge of Swakopmund's city centre. The dunes and beaches are both less than ten kilometres walking from the hostel. It is on the main road from Walvis Bay and Windhoek. The name is painted on the wall and therefore easy to recognize. Shuttles from Windhoek will drop you at the accommodation, while public transport from Walvis Bay may pass the place or will drop you very close. Public transport from Windhoek is cheaper than the shuttles, but they won’t drop you at the accommodation; reaching Desert Sky Backpackers by taxi is cheap. The hostel has a parking on their property, so you can park your car safely.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Desert Sky Backpackers Lodge has both private rooms and dorm rooms. Dorm rooms come in different sizes. Camping is also possible, but you will have to bring your own tent and equipment. The smallest dorm has only three beds. The price is the same for each dorm. The dorms can be locked and each guest has a key for the front door and either their private or dorm room. However, dorm rooms do not have lockers. There are several toilets at the property. The showers are in one block and are gender specific. The showers have a nice pressure. Both the showers and toilets are clean.
The hostel has several common spaces. There is a kitchen, an outdoor seating area, and an indoor TV-room with couches. The kitchen is spacious with a lot of equipment. There are several seats and tables at the outdoor seating area. In the TV room there are couches where you can lounge, a TV, books, and sockets for European chargers. The common areas tend to stay empty or with only a few guests. The hostel is not the best place to meet fellow travelers, but is a good place if you prefer a quiet place that feels safe.
Desert Sky Backpackers lodge is well located and easy to find in Swakopmund. It has a quiet atmosphere and feels very safe and with nice beds and a well-equipped kitchen. However, if you are a social traveler who likes to meet many people, this may not be the best hostel for you.
