Hostel Mundo Joven Catedral Reviews

A great place to stay in Mexico City.

Friendly, helpful staff, good security but not intrusive. Wifi did not reach my dorm room but it is available on the main floor. Good breakfast on the roof terrace overlooking the city.

Hostel with great location and amazing rooftop!

I was traveling with a friend and we both liked the hostel a lot. The location is perfect, it's located right next to the cathedral and there is bus stop of the turisbus right in front of the hostel. The breakfast is really amazing! Chilaquiles, eggs, frijoles, toast, coffee, orange juice ... and the breakfast is on the rooftop, where you have an amazing view.

Great hostel, perfect location, friendly staff, clean, and safe!

This hostel is well run, with friendly staff, and in great location. Close to metro and walking distance to everything. Free breakfast on rooftop is a bonus, better than most hostels, or even hotels continental breakfast. The rooms are clean and safe. I've been 3 separate times and will return again. Disliked nothing.

Couldn't have asked for more!

I was a little nervous as it was my first time in Mexico. I shouldn't have been though as the staff at this hostel really were its best asset -- they made me feel at home from the very beginning. These folks know what backpackers are after -- free walking tours (shout out to the wonderful Fernando!), cleanliness, decent free breakfast (scrambled eggs, beans, toast, fruit, yoghurt, tea, coffee), very secure, amazing rooftop bar with cheap drinks (Carol's mojitos!!!) and great social atmosphere making it easy to meet like-minded travelers from all over the world. Location is equally ideal -- right near the metro and at least half a dozen main attractions. I ended up staying 1.5 weeks more than intended and wouldn't stay anywhere else when next I am in Mexico City.

Highly recommend

Close to the Metro, safe enough, easy to reach to tour spot, and the front desk staff are good at English and Spanish.

HI - Ciudad de Mexico - Hostel MJ Catedral has an amazing location! Located in the heart of the Centro Historico district, the hostel overlooks an area that has street performers and other events happening daily. The views from the balcony overlooking the churches and old buildings are phenomenal.

The Location

The hostel is within close walking distance to most of the downtown attractions and only around the corner from the National Palace. You literally cannot go wrong with the location of this hostel!

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms here are really cosy. Some of them have shared bathrooms adjoining to the bedrooms, while others have separate bathrooms. Each bed has an allocated locker that is large enough to fit all of your luggage, but you have to supply your own lock. The rooms are cleaned daily and are of a very good standard, as are the bathrooms. The showers also come equipped with free soap dispensers, so you don't need to have your own.

Common Spaces

There are multiple common spaces here in the hostel. In the foyer, there is a restaurant where people can hang out at tables; they serve the free breakfast here in the mornings as well. Upstairs on the fifth floor, there is a kitchen with an outdoor balcony that overlooks the church; the amazing view brings people to sit out here and chill out with drinks. It is a great place to socialize and meet people. They also have the bar on the sixth floor, which hosts different events put on by the hostel on different nights of the week. There is always something to do here and someone friendly to meet!

This is by far one of the best and most social hostels we have stayed at. The location, the people, the atmosphere, and everything about it make it the perfect place from which to explore Mexico City. The staff here are super friendly and most will speak both Spanish and English or will be able to find you someone who can help if they don't speak English. The only downfall is the noise from the area during the night, which can make it difficult to sleep at times. However, who wants to sleep when there is so much of this amazing city to explore? This is a highly recommended hostel!

Good hostel. We were impressed

This place is good. We had a private room ensuite. It was clean, secure. Staff helpful. And fairly quiet. Would definitely recommend.

Out of the hostels in downtown, this is by far the best option. Unbeatable location, very clean and well managed. Amazing rooftop terrace. I keep coming back.

Hostel Catedral is a company with the objective of developing a new concept of tourism for the youth of México and the foreigner alike. The idea is to provide a place of lodging which is agreable, economical, comfortable, and secure while they are traveling in our country.

In this environment they could meet and get to know people traveling through México with their same expectations and objectives, absorbing the culture and traditions, and, above all, meeting great people!

The Hostel Catedral is located in the heart of the historic center of Mexico City, behind the impressive Metropolitan Cathedral and only a few blocks away from the most important archaeological site of the city, El Templo Mayor or the "Main Temple", of the ancient Aztecs. Houses, buildings, and churches that date from the colonial and Virreinal eras surround the hostel.

We are situated one block from the subway station Zócalo which connects you easily to the city's most important points of interest such as the Museums of Modern Art and of Anthropology, the park of Chapultepec, the Zona Rosa, Coyoacan, and more.
