An acceptable accommodation
The room was clean, the shared washroom was a bit dirty. The staff were friendly and helpful. There was a band that started at 10pm but was far enough from our room not to matter. The included breakfast was not good. Toast, coffee, and a couple of citrus fruit in a bowl. The WiFi is inadequate for the volume of users and does not extend to the rooms. Not bad overall.
Poc na Hostel is a really fun hostel and it has a really cool vibe to it.
The Location
Poc na is located only a short walk from where the ferry gets into Isla Mujeres, from the swimming beach and the local shops and restaurants on the main strip. It is the perfect location for your stay on the island. It is an amazingly social and upbeat hostel with most of the awesome nightlife on the island existing here at the hostel.
Rooms and Bathrooms
There are multiple area of the hostel with dorms and they differ depending on the type of dorm that you choose. If you can, take the cheaper room with more people in it if you plan on getting any sleep because the six-bed dorms back on to the bar and you will hear music pumping all night long. Keep this in mind when you choose your room and ask for one on the other side of the hostel if this is going to be a problem. Other than that the beds are good quality and the rooms are clean. They all have large lockers that you can put your things into but you need to provide your own lock.
There are many bathrooms around the hostel. There are many separate toilets and showers and then there are some that are combined in different parts of the hostel. They are all cleaned multiple times daily.
Common Spaces
Of the common spaces in Poc na, there is the restaurant area around the reception where people can sit and socialize and gain access to the really flighty internet that constantly cuts in and out. This is also the area where they serve the basic breakfast of toast and fruit in the mornings. The hostel also has a back room with a ping-pong table, other games, a book exchange and a television. Outside of the main wall of the hostel is an area with hammocks and a bar for the evenings and this backs on to the beach where you can go and sit and hang out. There is no kitchen in this hostel, so if cooking your own food is something that you want to do, keep this in mind.
Summary
They have free activities during the day including yoga in the mornings and Spanish lessons in the evenings. The hostel is affiliated with many of the different companies around the island such as the ferry company and golf buggy hire, so you can get a discount for particular services. They are also affiliated with other hostels on Isla Holbox, Merida, and San Cristobal and they have discounts if you stay for a certain number of nights. Just ask the staff and they should be able to help you out.
Best Beach Hostel in Mexico
This is more like a resort than a hostel. Very cool/unusual setup. It's huge. My room had aircon and the beds were really neat, built into the wall. Excellent location in a really cool neighborhood that's close to everything. Like everyone else said, the beach bar parties are HOT. My friend had sex in a hammock on the beach, so there ya go!
Nice but very cliquey
Nice place but it is run exclusively by and for Israelis really which means that it is very cliquey. If you are from elsewhere the welcome is cold and indifferent unfortunately unless you tip heavily at the bar! The facilities are really great, close to the beach, nice beach bar where the parties go on late, clean and safe. Nice communal common area and ok food from the restaurant. Annoying that you have to pay $5 for the water, which is the only place in Mexico that I have done so! The breakfast is merely 2 slices of toast and one piece of toast too which is a bit scroungy, if you are Israeli tho you will be treated to eggs of your choice but this is not extended to other travelers!!! Would I stay there again, most likely but only because there is not much other choice on the island!!
Lovely place to stay
Great place run overwhelmingly by people who are largely a friendly bunch so long as you integrate with the party atmosphere. Free classes there and ok food. Shame there is no communal kitchen however and filling up your water bottle costs $5 for a litre which is a bit tight considering a 20Ltr bottle costs only $20 or so!!! Near to the beach and the bars!
Perfect
This place has it all!! Cards, games, good food, good staff, party. A very social and friendly place! Best place I've ever been to!!
Poc Na is a great hostel, a little noisy at times, but an amazing place to relax and meet people -- definitely a party hostel. Beware the beach bar -- it doesn't shut until you leave!
Dire, awful, loud and filthy, these are just a few of the words I would use to describe this place. We stayed on the basis of the Lonely Planet review which described it as a "Club Med style hostel" -- this it most definitely is not. Stay somewhere else, sleep on the street if you must but dont give these people your hard earned cash.
Great venue with lovely outdoor area. Selinas staff does a great job in keeping dorm rooms and common areas clean. Highly recommended!
One of the most beautiful hostels Ive ever been! Very big space with an amazing pool and lots of areas to chill out. The rooms very nice and the bathrooms perfectly fine as well. There was constantly someone cleaning. The common areas were very nice well done and the kitchen was huge. Only thing: not many activities at night, so can be a little harder to connect if youre not outgoing. Also some daytime visitors and a few older couples. Still met some wonderful people and would definitely come here again.
Really great all-round hostel with excellent facilities and a cracking vibe. Showers and toilets could be a little bit cleaner but aside from that this place was ace.
Our experience at Selina Hostel ruined our time at Isla Mujeres. From the get go we were stressed due to dealing with rude staff, being overcharged, told our room would be different to what it was and being unable to get a refund for our awful stay. Any genuine complaint we had about the hostel fell on deaf ears.
So much potential. Such an incredible location, the communal areas are massive - it is a truly beautiful hostel. Some rooms are pretty dark and smell damp but beds are comfy. Not great atmosphere though. Hardly any socializing despite there being so many young people. The bar prices are too high and its such a shame because this place could have amazing energy and so many more people hanging out in the evenings but people dont want to because there is no atmosphere or good food/drinks.
Amazing property!! I love the sand that they have incorporated onto it, the beach is visible and the pool is amazing. I had a wonderful stay here. They have parties on the weekends and other activities planned for the weekdays. This is the perfect end to my long trip in Mexico.
The reviews are true yall, just find an Airbnb with your friends because this place isnt good. The staff stole my awesome shoes!! Ive gone over it a zillion times, but there is no one else who could have taken them besides cleaning staff & I didnt lose them. The front desk guy w/ slightly longer hair, screw you dude. You made me feel like sh*t. Aircon on 20c ALL DAY long, staff turns off lights if your eating past 9.
The waiter at the restaurant was the only nice thing about this hell hole
Amazing hostel - nicest Ive ever stayed in and would 100% recommend. Only con is that its not very social for solo travellers so would perhaps suggest somewhere else. Really great place otherwise!
The worst, ended up leaving for another hostel
The first private room we were given had mould all over the ceiling, we told reception and they did change us to a different room which was without mould. You had to pay extra for beds by the pool which was a bit of a rip off seeing as we had paid a lot for a private room. Anyone could walk into into the hostel so it wasnt super secure. Was sociable and the outside areas were really lovely, location was perfect for downtown.
The staff, all of them, are horrendous!
The facility looks nice, but you have to pay sit by the pool, pay to sit in the coworking room, etc.
Dont stay here
Best hostel I ever stayed at. Really friendly people and the pool was great! I would come back!!!
Okay this is a good hostel I think if you have not travelled much. The pool area is great. Great location and kitchen also. However, I just think the upgrade from Poc Na to Selina they have cramped the rooms, too many beds not enough space. I HATE the way the lockers are in the beds! I was kicking the locker in the night and hurting myself, stupid design. The shower was AWFUL and sprayed everywhere. Overall I think it is a good place to stay on mujeres but the rooms were not good.
Staff was always super p*ssed, security was AWFUL! We felt like in prison ! Never ever coming back!
Also diving trip was super unsafe and most likely got Deco after it!
Decent bunks for a Selina, you at least have some privacy with the curtains.
Typical Selina in terms that when I asked for local recommendations to eat, they pointed me to their restaurant and didn't give me anything else - its a business at the end of the day.
You can only leave your bags in the locker room until 2pm which I find odd.
No joke, I really really enjoyed this place, its amenities and friendly people kept my soul alive in this place. The only draw back was the water system in our hostel didn't work at late hours and for two days our toilet was out resulting in us walking to the other locations in the building. Regardless, I will definitely come back in future!
Propably one of the better selinas as most are dreadful. Really nice pool area and very close to the centre and local beach I do belive nomads is better however you pay alot more for it. A typical party hostel where the noise carrys on past midnight despite the mention of a quiet time. Beds where pretty uncomfortable. Staff where ok but seem to be mocking you in another language when i arrived
Loved the activities they put on! My partner and I stayed 2 nights in a private and the AC worked so well. Bed was comfy and bathrooms were super clean. Movie night on the beach and the yoga were our favorite. Free breakfast was very nice. Would definitely return!
Cool spot but berry big and felt a bit like a hotel
Most beautiful Hostel!! A little more chill but definitely worth a visit :)
