The Pelican Larry Hostel is a bright, fun, and colourful hostel located just outside of central Cali. The hostel provides a wealth of information on what to do around Cali and has great facilities.
The Location
The hostel is located around a fifteen-minute taxi ride from Cali's main bus terminal. It is on a side street off a main road and is identifiable from a distance. The hostel is ten minutes from a supermarket and has other smaller shops and restaurants nearby. To get to central Cali and it's historic centre it is around a thirty-minute walk from the hostel. The neighborhood feels safe, and as it is down a side street it's quite quiet.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms are of average size and have lockers in them for each guest. There is not a lot of floor space if the rooms are fully occupied and backpacks are on the floor. The bunk beds in the dormitories are comfortable and come with a thin sheet, which is adequate for Cali's hot nights. There is also one fan in the room, as it can get quite humid indoors.
The bathrooms are spacious and clean and have good facilities. The showers have average water pressure and cold water. There are not any hooks to hang clothes. Guests can also use shared bathrooms in the communal areas.
Common Spaces
This hostel has ample chill-out and common spaces to use. In the front of the hostel is a garden that includes hammocks and a seating area with umbrellas to provide shade. There is a TV at the front of the hostel that has sofas where you can relax. The main communal area has a long communal table, which is also used for breakfast. This main space also has bean bags, hammocks, and books. Backing onto the garden is a spacious kitchen with four hobs and baskets provided for those who want to go to the supermarket.
The hostel atmosphere is very friendly, with the communal spaces definitely helping to bring people together to chat. There is a lot of information about Cali around the hostel as well as helpful guides located at the hostel reception. The hostel has a salsa class every day, which is also a great opportunity to meet people.
