Casablanca Hostel Cali B&B

The Review

Casablanca Hostel Cali B&B is a quiet, regular hostel in a quiet area, and a good choice for those passing through.

The Location

It's a bit of a trek to the city centre, but located relatively close to the bus terminal. For most this will still be a taxi ride away, but it can be walked in under twenty minutes if you want to save a few pesos. There is a large grocery store a short walk from the hostel, as well as a couple banks and a small mall. There aren't many bars or restaurants close by, however.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Rooms are of average size and have a couple of fans, and private rooms are available with air conditioning. Beds are wooden and don't move or squeak much, however the pillows aren't the most comfortable. There aren't a great number of power points around the room, but the rooms have power boards to compensate.
Solid, medium-sized lockers are provided in all dorm rooms.

Bathrooms are a decent size, and look fairly modern. There are soap holders, clothes hooks, and enough room to change. Bathrooms have very hot water, and enough pressure, but it can be very inconsistent and hard to control at times. Sometimes all that is needed is a little patience for the hot to kick in, and other times it will come and go frequently. The safest time seems to be early, when no other showers or washing machines are being used.

Common Spaces

This hostel has a very quiet atmosphere. It's not a place to party. Also, if you are looking for a social hostel, this might not be the one, however they do sell beer, and have picnic tables out the front where you can have a drink or a smoke and meet a traveler or two. The only other common spaces are the reception, the cosy dining room, and the kitchen.

The kitchen is fairly well stocked, which is great for those traveling on a budget. It has an oven, six burners, coffee maker, microwave, a toaster, and a decent amount of pots and pans. The water is safe to drink, and the fridge has an ice dispenser.

This no-frills hostel has everything you need for a short stay in Cali. If you're looking to explore the explore the centre or party with some other travelers, you might look somewhere else. However, the convenient location from the bus terminal, the good price, and the nice and helpful owner make it a good choice for those passing through or exploring nearby towns.

Casa Blanca Hostel is a recently renovated hostel conveniently located in Cali. It has a calm and quiet atmosphere with nice rooms and good facilities. The Location Casa Blanca is located in the Santa Monica Sector of Cali with lots of shops nearby. It´s close to two supermarkets and about a fifteen-minute walk from the Chipichape Shopping Mall. It´s within walking distance of the bars and restaurants on Avienda 6N and the area seems safe enough even at night. It looks pretty close to the bus station on a map but it´s best to take a taxi. You can easily catch a bus or taxi to the old section of Cali to see the sights. Overall this is a very good location. Rooms and Bathrooms Both the dorms and private rooms are clean, light, and well looked after. The dorms have lockers to keep your valuables safe and the mattresses are rock hard and the pillows thin. The bathrooms are nice and the showers hot but a bit average. Common Spaces The hostel has a nice lounge with a large TV and lots of DVDs to choose from as well as a small book exchange. There is an outside balcony with a couple of plastic chairs where you can sit and eat or have a drink. There is also a dining room with a couple of tables and chairs where you can eat your meals. The kitchen is nice, clean, and well equipped, with ice and cold drinking water available. Wi-Fi is free and there are three computers for guest use (however an internet cafe at the supermarket down the road is cheaper). They have a lot of information and the staff are helpful. Summary Overall it´s a good, clean hostel; it doesn´t have too much of an atmosphere but is located in a good part of town and is a nice place to relax and enjoy Cali and the surrounding areas.
