Website
Hostel Mondpalast is a basic hostel in a decent location, worth a look if you're only staying a night or two.
The Location
The hostel is centrally located in the heart of Neustadt (the New Town). Getting from the bus station is a relatively easy walk. Just turn left down Dr Friedrich-Wolf-Strae and the second street on the right (Louisenstrae) will lead you straight to the hostel. If you're coming from the central train station, take the number 7 tram and get off at the Louisenstrae stop. You can buy a single ticket from the station or directly from the driver. There is a large shopping centre close to the hostel and also small night shops. The hostel is in the heart of the drinking/shopping district, so you will have no trouble finding a place to eat and drink (except on Sundays, when most things are closed).
Rooms and Bathrooms
The dorm rooms consist of a mixture of both bunk beds and single beds. There are large school-type lockers in the room, which fit a small backpack as well as other personal belongings and valuables. There are also tables/chairs in the room as well as a decent amount of power points to charge electronics.
The toilets and showers are separate; the toilets are quite small and cramped, while there is plenty of room in the shower area. In the showers there is a small stool and hooks for personal items. However there are no shelves in the shower for other shower items. There are no bath mats -- the floor in the shower area becomes easily flooded. Another negative is that there is a large window in the shower area and neighbors to the hostel complex can easily see into the bathroom.
Common Spaces
The common spaces are adequate but the furnishings are as dull as the atmosphere. The kitchen is essentially fully equipped, with the exception of an oven; it's generally adequate to prepare basic meals. There is a small combined dining/common area. Wi-Fi is included in the price and works in the rooms. There is a cafe/bar below the hostel where guests may chill with the public, and guests are given a voucher for slightly discounted drinks. Having said that, there are plenty of decent bars and cafes on the same street.
Summary
This hostel lacks all of the facilities that make other hostels excellent. If you're after a bed in a quiet location, then you'd have no problems staying here.
Good place to stay
good location, friendly and helpful staff, clean, all you need is in the in kitchen, free internet.
The hostel is easily find and is about ten minutes' walk from the Dresden-Neustadt station. The floors is well-decorated and so is the room. There are lots of cooking utensils in the kitchen and you can cook by yourself. The room is kept in very good condition and the heater works very well! The toilets are clean also. The hostel also offer high-quality food and drinks with a reasonable price. That is very good to stay in such an excellent hostel with this reasonable price! I love Dresden and enjoyed so much my stay in Mondpalast! Thank you for the nice staffs again!
The staff of Mondpalast is VERY friendly and helpful. The hostel is extremely clean and well kept. I would recommend this hostel to anyone that wishes to visit Dresden.
Great place to stay. Clean, good beds and prices were good, too. The walk to the center is not too bad. Staff are friendly and helpful. It's one of the best hostels I've stayed at.
Great hostel, plus it has a very excellent location at the edge of the hippest street in town, Louisienstrasse. There are ots of cool bars and restaurants nearby. Don't go anywhere else! It's super clean and super friendly, too.
Our first impressions of Hostel Mondpalast weren't great. The supposed "24-hour reception" didn't really come through for us when our bus was late getting into town. We didn't get to the hostel till 5 a.m., and we had to sleep in the doorway on the street for 2.5 hours before the cleaning lady grumpily allowed us to wait inside for check-in at 8 a.m. After this excitement, however, the rest of our stay was excellent. The reception staff were helpful, and the rooms and bathrooms were very clean. We made heaps of friends, encouraged by the spacious dining room/lounge area, and a busload of Italians who cooked us pasta and went out dancing with us. The location was great, within easy walking distance to good bars, clubs, etc. They had the best souvlakis down the road, too. I would definitely recommend this hostel. (Oh, and you have to hire bikes in Dresden - six euros for the day from the train station Neustadt. It's the best way to see the city!)
Cheap, nice rooms, friendly receptionists, nice kitchen and dining area, just a great experience.
