Perfect location. Staff very, very helpful.

Really good value!

Stayed for three nights (June 28 - July 1, 2010). There's actually two buildings: the main one on the north side of the canal and a second one on the south side. Reception is only open from 7am-2pm at the south side location, so it's a pain in the ass because you have to check in at the north building and then haul your luggage over to the south building (which I had to do). However, the facilities were spotless. I got a four-bed mixed dorm with a private bathroom down the hall and even a small TV! It's a little hard to meet other people, but the people in my room were cool and really friendly. Breakfast was typical fare, but good and the staff friendly. Like previously mentioned, the subway is only a couple minutes walk away and relatively easy to get to all the main sights. For only 14 euros a night, this place was a steal.

Breakfast! Clean!

Still can't forget that amazing breakfast! Absolutely the best! Nice, big, clean rooms and bathrooms. Nice staff and great view from rooftop! Location might seem a bit isolated, but near U-Station and had no problem at all arriving late at night. Kitchen a bit cramped but has a big fridge and cook tops. Great stay!

I really enjoyed my four day stay here. The hostel is a bit out of the way, but it is walking distance to everything you might want to see in Berlin (we walked pretty much everywhere we went to), and there are buses and metro stops nearby as well. The staff were all very helpful and friendly and the rooms were very clean. Breakfast was great -- the best I've seen at a hostel -- and it was really nice to eat out on their balcony. We met some great people here, though there are no real common areas except the dining room to speak of. I would definitely stay again!

Best hostel ever! Perfect!

Wow! Where to begin. The breakfast is delicious and huge! The rooms are comfortable with a toilet and a shower in the room. Hot shower, with pressure! Very clean! Well located! The cheapest hostel but the best one! incredible.

Meininger is the place to be in Berlin! I stayed here in the summer of 2006 and it was one of the cleanest and friendliest hostels I have ever stayed at. Couple minute walk from the U-Bahn Station. The staff were very polite and the rooms were very clean and tidy. The rooms are non-smoking and there is an outside bar. It has a very safe feeling to it, and is not loud at all. Beds are very comfy and I wasn't awoken in the middle of the night by loud guests in my room. I really recommend this hostel.

Great, great, great!

Stopped here three nights in November; nice hostel, really helpful and friendly staff. Clean and tidy rooms. Superb breakfast. could not fault this hostel at all. Do not miss the free berlin tour, it is excellent. would definitely recommend this hostel.

Happy Bed Hostel Reviews from the Web

As per previous poster, the Hostel/owner allows large groups of students to stay here regardless of their behaviour. The kitchen was also closed (going on 3 days), guests could not use. Myself and another guest lost over $100 dollars worth of food as we were not allowed to store our food in the fridge. The staff seemed disinterested as it was not their problem. Staff member, reluctantly gave me a refund after I had to explain that I had payed to use the services of the kitchen. Go elsewhere.

Hostel allowed the booking of nearly the whole floor to spanish/italian students. Who have, and are continuously allowed to run riot smashing on other guests doors and being extremely disruptive. One of the dipshits from this same group surposedly made a "mess in the kitchen (14.02.20)" and staff closed the kitchen. What is upsetting, the staff havent kicked this group out on their ass but would rather make a quick dollar of them at all the other guests expense.

The hostel is nice and clean, with a beautiful top roof terrace. The only drawback: the room was a bit noisy, from the room you can here the aerial metro, so better bring earplugs. The staff gets into the room without knocking (this happened a few times), what I found a bit impolite for a woman dorm. Otherwise, it is convenient.

Nice staff and good bfast!

Liked: Location Didn't like: n/a

Liked: Great location. Rooms were clean and very comfy. Breakfast was free for under 25s, which was sensational. Could wash clothes cheaply, and the hostel receptionists were very helpful and friendly. Didn't like: The leisure areas, like a TV and billiards room, are locked away downstairs. Would be much better if they had it for free use on the top floor - would help create a more social atmosphere.

Liked: friendly staff, fine location in kreuzberg, clean room and bathroom and we had a free breakfast because we were 27 years and younger. Didn't like: lacks atmosphere, not a place where you can chill with other travellers(if im correct). Close to a big road, but that actually didn't matter. Berlin nights are intens, so no problem with the little noise. (or just close your window)

Liked: Decent location, cheap late check out fee (trust me, you will need it after Berlin's nightlife) rooms were quite spacious, the younger staff are very friendly and helpful. Didn't like: Not a lot of atmosphere in the place, we hardly saw anyone else over the couple of days we were there. Also, the older man behind the desk (possibly owner) was very grumpy, got quite agitated when we were trying to buy our late check out.

Liked: Very friendly staff ran the property, and they were also good at offering advice and providing assistance to the visitors. The hostel was in a very convenient location, minutes away from a local train station, so easy to travel around the local area and visit the sites. Good facilities were on site, such as the downstairs kitchen and tv room. Was also very happy to find out that breakfast was included for free for guests under 27years of age. Didn't like: Although free WiFi was provided the network wasn't great and struggled to gain connection at times.

Liked: The staff was very friendly Didn't like: It was not clean

Liked: the friendly and helpful staff Didn't like: the room was to small for 8 people. We didn't have extra lights by our beds, so everyone had to wake up the others if we need light.I also think that the mold in the bathroom wasn't ok, don't matter, what price we pay..

Liked: Very friendly staff, they helped with all my questions and things I needed. There's a possibility for a small breakfast every morning for a small amount of money (4,5 euro) and the bathroom-shower room is inside the room Didn't like: The water in the shower took a while to drain, but it's a small thing regarding the quality o the room, which was good, especially comparing to the price.

Liked: the staff are friendly and the rooms are very clean. Also they gave everyone in my group of friends a room key which is useful Didn't like: it is very near a motorway so there is noise throughout the night but its not too bad. Also walking back at night from the underground station made me slightly nervous as there is a dodgy park located nearby.

Great location, clean facality and good stuff

Giray Kefelioglu

Quite positive overview: very good service considering such a low fee.

Well positioned and clean enough.

Rich breakfast for only 4.50.

Free luggage deposit: great!

Very helpful staff.

If you're looking for fun when you're not wondering around the city, maybe it's not the best place for you, but if you want to chill out with a beer at hand, the next-door bar is perfect!

We had a nice stay at this hostel. It was clean with good breakfast.
