Jugendherberge Hamburg Auf dem Stintfang Reviews

An HI hostel with a great view over the Elbe River and walking distance from the Reeperbahn red-light district; featuring clubs, bars, shows, theatres, cabarets, and a casino. The hostel offers a bar and three eating rooms including a balcony. Everything seems to be exceptionally clean, and the primary guests appear to be school children from around the region.

Comfortable and organized

It was a very comfortable place to stay. There aren't enough restrooms on the 2nd floor. I stayed in two different rooms and in both the other people in my room went to bed very early and woke very early in the morning (6am?). The rules about check-in (reservation is cancelled at 5pm) if you haven't checked in are a bit frustrating.

Youth Hostel Hamburg - Auf dem Stintfang is close to a subway stop and caters to families. The hostel is large but the only common room available is the dining room or the guest kitchen in the basement with no windows.

The Location

This hostel is a ten-minute walk from a subway stop and four stops on the subway from the main train station. If taking the subway, a short trip ticket is sufficient and saves you money.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The dorm rooms have electronic locks with a key card and in-room lockers large enough for small luggage. There is a varying number of beds available in a room and all beds are bunk beds. Private rooms are available but they are also only bunk beds. Every room has its own bathroom with a shower stall, toilet, and sink. The bathrooms are tiny, with no changing room available and no shelf space inside or outside the shower.

Common Spaces

The main common space is the large dining area on the ground floor. It has huge windows that overlook the harbor along with a small outside dining area. Also in the dining area is a pool table and an overlarge chess set. Breakfast is free and is served off of the dining area. When open, there is a bar off of the dining area but it's not large enough for more than ten people.

In the basement is a guest kitchen and a ping pong table. The guest kitchen is large but not very well equipped. As far as dishes and pots and pans go, there is only enough for four people to cook and eat at the same time, but the kitchen is not used very often by other guests. The ping pong tables are set up in a room with no windows and no decorations and is not very nice to be in. There is no book exchange or common computers.

Most of the guests staying at the hostel will be families with lots of kids ranging in ages. There is not a lot of socialization between guests that didn't previously know each other, but the kids all seem to get along.

This hostel is large and caters to families as guests. There is no common area to hang out in other than the dining area, which is open all day until 11 p.m. The bar is only open in the evening and not at all on Sundays. Breakfast is free and has more selections than usual for free hostel breakfasts.

Nice View, but unfriendly stuff

This might be the Youth Hostel with the best view in germany! But the staff knows the fact and acts this way. I was checked-in in a high price room even I booked the cheap dorm. The front desk stuff didn't like my complain and told me, "Your new room has about 50 degrees Celsius, but now you have to take it."

The room wasn't this hot and had only two more beds the the one I had before (about 5 Euro difference). Anyway, I did not have any contact with that person afterwards, so my stay was very fun!

Amazing view!

Very nice and clean hostel. Amazing view of the biggest port in Europe! Easy to get to, very close to S-Bahn station. The downside is the noise, because they have school/classes there on a trip, but the noise usually stops around 9 p.m. Overall good impression, would definitively recommend!

Nice location near waterfront and a metro station. Clean and spacious dorms with lockers.

The hostel is absolutely great. This side shows old photos. The hostel has a big reception area with a video wall. All rooms are en-suite rooms. This is by far one of the best hostels in Germany! We stayed in a double room with a great harbour view.

There are loads and loads of families staying here, so it's not great if you'd like to meet young backpackers. The woman who works at reception is a bit of a bulldog, very strict. Otherwise it was very clean and the breakfast was good, but it's in a bit of a quiet area.

This place has first class fellow travelers, and hoops fans if you ever play in this neck of the woods book in here. It's 10 minutes from Reeperbahn/St. Pauli and the football stadium. The best!

Excellent place! Very calm and big, with wide common spaces. It is mostly a family hostel, lots of families of all ages. Price includes buffet breakfast, best I've ever had in a hostel! Only down point is that is has no kitchen or fridge, otherwise it is a great place to come. The atmosphere is not the best for meeting other people though.

Very good location- central and so close to a train station. Breakfast is really excellent, and free luggage storage! Only negative is I felt the rooms were a bit cramped but for the good price you cant really complain

Good Location and clean rooms. Very hot, so maybe a fan would be appreciated but Im sure the heat wont be replicated most of the time. Possibly more shower facilities would be appreciated. Free breakfast was great.

Nice staff, free breakfast was good (as long as youre not vegan/vegetarian), clientele was mainly family people which made the vibes very odd. Shower head could not be moved at all, so it was a bit too low down for me

Location absolutely amazing tho

Top hostel! Vegan breakfast, friendly and helpful reception staff. Perfect room accomodation. Highly recommend.

Great place for its value. Had good breakfest. Everything was simple and good.

This is a great hostel. However, my friend realized she did not give the key 20 minutes after check out. She finished tidying up the room a bit for the cleaning staff instead of running down to give it. Anyway this arrogant little man was not having it and refused to not charge her for another night. This person showed absolutely no empathy despite my friend being nice about it. This is not how you treat people. I honestly feel kind of bad for people like that. Must be miserable.

Make you pay just for soap in your bathroom which is a disgrace so they clearly dont care about hygiene. The soap isnt even a disinfectant. Charge 4 euro for towels with no refund avaiable which is a rip off. Breakfast was great but if they want to keep having customers this hostel should stop being so focused on making money and more about being reasonable for customers. My locker in my bedroom didnt work so I had to share with somebody else. Great location that being said and we had fun.

Fine, the staff is very kind, nothing bad about them. I would recommend another hostel if you are staying for longer. The beds are a bit outdated but the bathrooms were spacious.

The location is absolutely perfect if you wish to visit the Reeperbahn and the Hafen!

For a single-female traveler I would maybe not come back, but in general the hostel is perfectly fine for a short stay.

This was a great stay! Wonderful location, allowed easy access to public transportation but also walking distance to plenty of amazing restaurants and sites. Was able to find this hostel last minute and so glad that we did. Breakfast was great and check in was easy and efficient. Would highly recommend if looking for somewhere with a group and I would stay again if ever back in Hamburg!

Modern, spacious and well-equipped hostel with a great location and excellent breakfast.

Pretty excellent. An amazing view to the harbour, even from the room, friendly helpful staff, a nice atmosphere, good secure lockers to store valuables and fellow like-minded travellers. Will definitely be back.

Excellent views at breakfast!

Modern, spacious and well-equipped hostel with a great location and excellent breakfast.

Didnt really feel safe in the neighbourhood, the cleanness was ok but Ive seen better in China so for Hamburg it was a bit of a let down. Lots of high schoolers and family with young children so it was quite loud in the common area. Staff were super friendly and helpful so 10/10 for that. Breakfast was good and included. I wished there was a female dorm available, but there wasnt.

The hostel is big and I would recommend booking a bedroom with fewer beds (I had one with 8). It was a bit noisy due to the teenagers around.

The breakfast is very good and the hostel is well located.

The hostel building itself had no problem. It is big and cool. But the hostel is on the top of the hill, and the nearest station had no lift to carry my heavy luggage up and down. I had a little trouble.

Everything was very good, but there was not wi-fi service, and the computer service in the hostal is very expensive...

there were very nice view over the port from the hostel window. Even from a bed, there was a good view of the Mary Queen 2.

very clean rooms and shower facilities. staff were friendly and helpful to a fault. great location; right next to a metro station that's only a few stops away from the hauptbahnhof and the city centre. near the hamburg history museum. wonderful free breakfast buffet. secure environment with lockers and key card for doors.
