• About the Paris Metro:
• The Paris metro is a rapid public transportation system offering 16 lines, numbered 1 to 14, including the minor lines 3bis and 7bis (most likely you won’t have to worry about these). The Paris metro is fantastically easy to use, but take a bit of time to get to know it.
• The direction to take the subway in is always the last stop of the line in the direction of your destination.
• The subway is quite safe, convenient (metro stops are close together, so you never have to walk too far), very frequent (usually between 1-5 minute waits, except for later at night), and runs between approximately 5.30 AM and 12.45 AM.
• Though you will mainly need the metro to get around, there are also bigger trains that run towards the suburbs, called the RER, lines A, B, C, D, and E; tramways that travel along the peripheries of Paris, lines 1, 2, 3a, 3b, 5, and 7, and a multitude of bus lines.
• Buying a ticket is simple: you can either purchase them directly from the machine if you have change (highly recommended as it can save you a headache) or a credit or debit card with a chip. Otherwise, some stations take bills, and most have a teller that can assist you or sell you tickets.
• In terms of fare, for a single ride on the metro, a “Ticket t+†costs €1,90 (this includes transfers). Passes are available for 1, 2, 3, or 5 days that allows unlimited access to the metro that start at €10 (reduced fare for children). You can also buy a weekly pass, but be aware that it runs from Monday to Monday, not a week from when you buy it (same goes for a monthly, which starts on the 1st and ends on the last day of the month).
