Where to stay in Gold Coast on a budget

This beautiful coastal city along Queensland’s southeast corner is a fairly high-profile destination for tourists both within Australia and abroad – primarily lovers of watersports flocking to Gold Coast’s famous Surfers Paradise district.

The area boasts a mild, subtropical climate, and the consistently warm weather year-round make it a perfect spot for a beach vacation. This region is also home to the Gold Coast Hinterland, a predominantly rural area containing mountain ranges covered in a thick carpet of rainforest broken up by creeks, waterfalls, valleys, and unique rock formations.

The Hinterland is mostly protected national parks, and provide a unique opportunity for visitors to explore some of Australia’s beautiful landscapes and wildlife. Sections of the Hinterland have been cleared for wineries and other agricultural pursuits, and tours of this area are available for visitors who don’t want to drive themselves.

More than 30 beaches cover almost 40km of shoreline in Gold Coast, easily explaining why this destination is so popular with vacationers seeking a holiday in the sun. Several beaches can be easily reached by foot from a local hotel or hostel, but others will require catching a shuttle or a taxi.

A stay at a hostel or hotel in Gold Coast also provides tourists with the opportunity to explore tons of exciting theme parks, some of which can become quite busy during peak season. Sea World, Warner Bros. Movie World, Dreamworld, WhiteWater World, Australian Outback Spectacular, Wet ‘n’ Wild, Tropical Fruit World, and Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary are all within driving distance of a hotel or hostel here, and can keep visitors busy for days.

Visitors can fly into Brisbane, about one hour north of Gold Coast. Taxis, shuttles, and car rentals are available from the airport to get tourists to their local accommodation – and on the beach, enjoying the spectacular Australian sunshine.
