Freiburg Hostels

Freiburg is a German city in Baden-Württemberg and is the southernmost city in the country. It is close to both France and Switzerland and unites the cultures of all three countries.

The city is made up of 28 boroughs and if you are looking for a hostel in Freiburg, there are several options. Altstadt is the geographical heart of the city and includes the old city center with most major attractions. It is surrounded by the Neuburg, Oberau, Unterwiehre, and Stühlinger which are acceptably close to the city center. If you are on a budget, it might be better to look for a Frieburg hostel in one of these since Altstadt, although it is the most beautiful borough, is also the most expensive.

The closest airport is Basel International Airport which can easily be accessed by train. Getting around from your Freiburg hostel is easy because there is a comprehensive public transport system in place. In the old city center, the best way to get around is to walk.

While you are staying in a Freiburg hostel, you should visit the iconic Münster building which is located in the city center. Start here for a walk to explore the rest of the remaining historic buildings that survived World War II. Visiting one of Freiburg’s numerous museums such as the Augustinermuseum which features historical exhibitions, or the Museum für Neue Kunst which focuses on modern art and Expressionism is also enjoyable. You can also spend a sunny spring day climbing up the Schlossberg where you can enjoy a stunning view of the city from the top.
