5  You get what you pay for Having been there when Martin and John looked after the place, I can say John does a better job at it. For €15 a night it did the job. Recommend people to get one of the small rooms: works out a bit dearer, but allows you to sleep better, as no-one will be turning the lights on when you're asleep (and leaving them on).  , Ireland ()
1  well for starters the place is inhabited by twenty-five polish people who permanently live there and when we arrived we were greeted by one of them who was off his face holding a cat and doing his washing. was the coldest weekend of the year yet the radiators weren't on. the beds were so damp they were wet, there was mould on the ceilings, and the common room looked like something from a concentration camp. during the night, druggies tried to rape the girls and just barged into thinking they saw hash on top of the curtains! have to say though, it was very eventful and was a great laugh once you get over the terror!  , Dublin ()
1  Dirty, Smelly, Stinky, Rotten Dive. Would not recommend this place to a homeless person. man that owns the place is a scumbag. anyone in their right mind would not have anything good to say about this filthy dump. Rip off.  ()
4  Being in Ireland and in the Carlow area I just had to check for myself if this Hostel was as truly bad as everybody described. Well, lo and behold, I was quite amazed. I was greeted upon arrival by a very friendly and jolly Irish/Aussie by the name of John. John appears to be the new management as he dealt with all the bookings, telephone calls, complaints [very few] and general run of the place. No dreaded Martin in sight. He seemingly got the boot last year but John remained tight lipped and discreet when asked about this. Overall the place appeared very clean, my room was exceptionally clean and toilets and showers the same. I think John has a large part in this, although laid back and friendly as he is I detected a tough, no nonsence attitude to the care, upkeep of the hostel and general care and wellbeing of his guests. I spoke to some Polish gentlemen who stay there on a longterm basis and they told me that although the ownership remains the same the appearence of John on the scene has greatly improved the standard of living for all the longterm residents and guests. So basically summing it up, I would recommend the place at the moment to anybody as I felt very welcome, safe and secure [and my property] under the care of this new management, and girls, John's kinda cute too although I think he is having a love affair with his motorbike! Nice guy! Nice hostel! Check it out!  ()
1  It doesn't even deserve a one star rating. I have never stayed in a place like this. It is absolutely disgraceful. The bed sheets are filthy and have probably never been washed. There is no key to the door and people can walk into your bedroom whenever they want. My friends and I were changing and a security guard walked into our bedroom without knocking. But apparently it's okay, according to the manager, because he has been working there for two years. They should give him a promotion. There is no privacy. I am not over exaggerating by saying that this place is disgusting. Please take my advice and DO NOT GO to this hostel. This place is not fit for a rat, never mind people.  ()
1  Dirty filthy Martin, or what's his name, tried to sexually abuse my girlfriend Ivana, and then he or someone else from his group stole my golden watch. Never again — BEWARE.  ()
1  This place was absolutely disgusting. The whole place was just filthy — beds, carpets, and showers. It was too expensive for what you got. I'd recommend staying in a Bed-and-Breakfast. There are loads of them in the town, and they are reasonably priced.  ()
2  I was told one bloke working there called Martin tried to rip my mate off for 150 euro or a number around that. I liked it because it is a dirty dark grim place, but good clean people probably would not like it at all.  ()
3  It looks worse from the outside than from inside, though I could think of a lot of improvement. Surprise: the shower-rooms were completely new, that helped.  ()
1  Dirty rat infested house. Dirty beds, dirty carpets. Don't go there it should be closed down.  ()
