Fantastic all around -- no complaints!
I stayed in this hostel with a friend of mine in August, and we had a wonderful experience! We both had limited knowledge of French, but the people behind the desk were very accommodating. Our room had a lovely view, was always clean, and we never had to worry about our things being safe when we were gone. Breakfast was decent. it's free so you can't be too fussy. The location was ideal -- so good that when we came back to Paris near the end of our trip we requested the exact same hostel! All in all, Maubisson spoiled us, and no other hostel in my travels has ever come close to it.

Friendly Atmosphere!
I stayed in Maubuisson with a friend for four nights in june 2007. I contacted the hostal only three days before our arrival and they were very friendly and we could book four nights in Maubuisson and one night in Fourcy (because it's the same owner). The staff was always friendly, they helped us to find cheap restaurants and we were finally allowed to spend our last night in paris in the lobby of this hostel (because of the fact that we were leaving early we did not want to pay another night). The rooms are nice and clean, mostly of four persons, each provided with a shower. The breakfast consists of bread, orange juice, croissant, jam, tea/coffee. There is no common room, so it's a bit difficult to meet other travelers, but we always made friends with the people who shared our room! Something annoying -- in this hostel there are often staying school classes or youth groups, so be prepared for thirty little children running up and down the stairs at 6:30 in the morning! The hostel is located really perfect -- Marais is a very nice quarter (stand up early and take fotos!) and it's within walking distance to the Latin Quarter where you can find a lot of bars and discos. Oh, and don't worry about the curfew (1 a.m.), you just have to tell at the reservation if you're going to be late and they'll let you in.

Not a bad hostel, certainly. They kick you out for a few hours during the day to clean, and that's a trade-off I don't particularly mind making. Cheap price, warm showers, clean bed, and three minutes away from Notre Dame. Both the fellow and the cute girl working the lobby were nothing but friendly to me, and I enjoyed the conversation. Definitely worth checking into if you're heading to Paris. All of the MIJE hostels in Paris are pretty nice and, although this one gets the lowest rating, it is still far better than many of the places there.

It's a nice place and all, with the beds, toilets, and bedrooms being very clean. However, the 1 a.m. curfew can be a problem if you wanna check out the city by night. Having said that, however, it is a hostel mainly targeted for school groups, so one would understand why the curfew is there. The internet cannot be relied on, and costs the same as the internet cafes where they have reliable connections. Not a place to go to if you wish to socialise, but definitely the best spot in town to catch a good eye's sleep. And the location could not be any better! All three hostels under this management are a stone's throw away from the train stations, and they're all five minutes away from the Seine. Again, highly recommended, but not for party people. Oh, and if you want to make sure you have a room upon arrival, make sure you follow their instructions and call to reconfirm a day before your arrival.

The staff are so rude. I mean the worst I have ever seen in a hostel. There is no electrical socket in the rooms. It is central though. No atmosphere at all. A total waste of time. We hated it.

It is good, excellent location. I just think there is too strong smell of disinfection everywhere which is not very agreeable on the bed linen. And if you want to come after one a.m., you can be submitted to not very nice conversation with night guard.

This hostel is good. The rooms and showers are very very clean, the shower have hot water and pressure, but the rooms are not super, it seems old. The breakfast was ok -- croissant, baguette, orange juice, coffee or hot chocolate, butter and jam. The staff was ok, they couldnt speak much English, but enough to comunicate. Internet is incredibly expensive. The only real problem is we booked a room at Fourcy and when we arrived there, they just said that there was no reservation and that we should go to Maubuisson.

I stayed here the summer of 2005. The hostel wasn't very social but we managed to meet people. The rooms were beautiful and in a perfect location, a stone's throw away from Notre Dame, the Latin Quarter, the Seine, and the Louvre. My friend and I had a room with a private bathroom and for the first two nights we were in the room by ourselves, so it was like staying in a hotel. There are a lot of school groups that stay here and they can be rather noisy. I found the staff to be very friendly. They were patient with me and helped me work on my French. The hostel was one of the cleanest I stayed at.

The room was okay, nothing special. But the people at the front desk were not always all that helpful or friendly. Plus it has a non-social atmosphere. I would not really recommend this as a place to stay.

The location of this hostel is excellent. It's close to all the major tourist attractions but also to the beautiful and quiet streets of Marais and Ile St. Louis. The rooms and showers are very clean. The receptionists are helpful and polite (not fun though). The problem is that they host school groups, which can be quite loud and annoying, plus the atmosphere tends to be depressing. Perfect hostel if you're not traveling alone!

Awful. Fourcy is okay except for the manager who makes no secret of the fact that he hates Americans. The groups seemed to have leaders to keep his surliness away from the kids. But Maubuisson is terrible. The beds sag, the staff is surly at night with a leering desk clerk and the breakfast is miserly. Try to get a second cup of coffee and they will fight you. Another thing — you may think you reserved a place at one of the other buildings and then you find out you are in Maubuisson. The great location is not worth the trade off.

The location was excellent. The rooms were very clean and the water pressure in the showers was excellent. The staff people are very friendly, except for one of the girls. The free breakfast is pretty good. The lockers are basically free since you get your money back in the end. Overall, it's a great hostel.

This hostel was the worst I have ever stayed in! Firstly, the water in the bath ran green, and then when we arrived late-ish at night the staff started swearing and being rude and offensive to us. We even had an infestation of mice and cockroaches. This place doesn't even deserve one star. It's a definite NO!!!

We spent two nights at Maubuisson. This hostel was great - it has an excellent location right near the Seine and the rooms were very clean and comfortable. We had some unpleasant stays in hostels in Europe but this one was wonderful. The hostel is in a picturesque building with ivy growing on it. It's right across from a large, Gothic church.

According to various guests this is their least favorite of the MIJE hostels. Like all buildings in Paris, this one is old. It shows in some places but they do have an elevator and electronic door locks. Showers and sinks are in room. The hot water in showers is plentiful. The rooms, showers, and toilets are kept fairly clean. Sheets are changed everyday. The rooms are generally single sex. This hostel primarily caters to (French) school groups. Therefore the atmosphere is not social; however, there is a large common room. The groups tend to be noisy as do the bells at the church next door. The building is in a quiet residential neighborhood but there are a few restaurants nearby. This hostel is just across the river from the Notre Dame. Rue des Barres is a pedestrian side street accessed off Rue de Hotel de Ville which parallels Quai de Hotel de Ville.
